    Orion Pictures is Back!

Orion Pictures has risen from the ashes and on the quiet MGM has revived the company brand. Orion Pictures was responsible for distributing the first Terminator movie (The Terminator) and also distributing the first RoboCop movie. Orion hold a place in many Terminator Fans hearts.

    Orion Pictures

Orion Pictures was originally formed in 1978 and was an independent company until 1988 when financial difficulties and losses made it so they had to sell the company. Metromedia then became the owners of Orion and then in 1997 MGM bought the company. This is the reason why all your copies of The Terminator on DVD and Blu-Ray have a Lion roaring at the start of them. The last film Orion produced before the company was put to sleep was in 1999, Orion is still remembered for distributing famous titles.

Now Orion has been brought back from the dead and has a couple of titles in co-production with MGM and other companies.

Vestido Pra Casar a Brazillian movie.

The second movie they have in production is titled The Town That Dreaded Sundown is  according to wikipedia; “an upcoming American horror film meta-remake of the 1976 film of the same name. It was made “low-budget” to keep the same cinéma vérité as Charles B. Pierce’s film”. Deadline.com announced that the movie will be distributed by Orion in October.

This is also interesting because Gale Anne Hurd has expressed interest in rebooting the Terminator franchise once ownership reverts back to the original owners of the franchise in 2018. This could possibly mean that Orion Pictures could end up being in the loop if she reboots the franchise with Cameron or at least with his blessing (please Jim).

When Annapurna Pictures got involved with the Terminator franchise it was our belief that Megan Ellison would produce a low-budget and gritty Terminator movie in the vein of the first Terminator movie. That very notion got us very excited for a Terminator 5.

Terminator: Genisys has become so hyped and shrouded in so much mystery that we just don’t understand it. Something just doesn’t feel right; but maybe that is the very intention of the studios (Skydance and Paramount).

Would you be excited to see a low budget Terminator movie in the style of the first movie helmed by Gale Anne Hurd and distributed by Orion Pictures?

We would,- anything that continues the life of the franchise for the fans is always good to hear.

P.S – MGM and Orion; can you please make an R Rated RoboCop movie for the real fans?

Terminator needs to be back in the horror genre/Rated R Category. We are not called ‘TheTerminator’Fans.com for nothing. We want B-Movie Villain Arnold, not silverscreen Comedy Arnold.

I’m glad Orion is back, but we don’t need more Terminators. Just leave it at the first two and forget the rest.

What we need is new, original sci-fi action flicks, as good as RoboCop and Terminator. I don’t want my kids growing up on reboots. I want them to have exciting classics like I did in the late 80s/early 90s.

Cool site, too; I just found this place today and will be back regularly:) Thanks!
