The Terminator is an unstoppable and relentless killing machine (well it used to be) but just as relentless at providing phone, TV and Broadband packages to UK customers are British Telecom (BT).
A new BT TV study comprising of 2,000 British people reveals that “I’ll be back” is the top most quoted movie quote and Hollywood still underestimates the power of the first Rated R Terminator movie? Terminator 2’s “Hasta la vista baby” also comes in at eighth place.
BT’s Report on Brits Most Popular Movie and TV Quotes:
There are many instantly recognisable quotes from films and TV shows that Brits love to repeat, but Arnold Schwarzenegger’s famous “I’ll be back” from The Terminator tops the list, with nearly two thirds of people (62 per cent) admitting to using the line in conversation and on social media.
He’s possibly the most quotable actor, securing a second spot in the top 10 BT TV movie quotes list with his follow up quote “Hasta la vista, baby” from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The BT TV study of 2,000 Brits, who have all used a quote when speaking to others, also looked at the nation’s favourite TV shows quotes, with the long-running animated series The Simpsons “D’oh!” coming out top. Hot on Homer Simpson’s tail is everyone’s favourite grumpy neighbour, Victor Meldrew with his famous “I don’t believe it” line.

On average, Brits like to say lines from film and TV shows three times a week and the people we are most likely to say them to are our friends (43 per cent) followed by our partners (42 per cent). Over two thirds of people (69 per cent) said it’s funny to say the lines, and half of people (51 per cent) said they sum up moments in life.
Film critic James King commented:
“There are so many iconic quotes in these lists from different eras of film and television, there is something for everyone. Arnie has some great lines from the Terminator series and when you say them you instantly know they were said by him and what film they are from. But there are many quotes here that people say a lot but perhaps don’t realise originate from a film or TV show.”
Tony Singh, Director of Content at BT TV, said:
“Great TV brings us closer together and films play such a powerful part in our lives that all of us borrow quotes from the movies when speaking to our friends and families or when posting on social media. My personal favourite is ‘Make him an offer he can’t refuse’ from Coppola’s masterpiece The Godfather, which sadly didn’t make it into the list.”
When quizzed almost 35 per cent of young adults admitted they quote from films ‘all the time’ while almost 35 per cent of people aged over 65 admitted to doing it ‘sometimes.
Thousands of films are available to buy or rent on the BT TV store for BT TV customers, including the latest blockbusters and classic cinema. Hundreds of TV box sets are also available to buy and own, as single episodes or whole seasons.
