Gene Warren Jnr. of Fantasy II Effects, sadly passed away on November 28th 2019.
The news comes from Terminator 2’s Bart J. Mixon who shared the loss of his friend on November 29th via social media.
If you loved the practical and miniature effects from the first two Terminator movies; then you will know Gene and his company (Fantasy II Effects) from the special features / ‘making of’ documentaries on home releases.
Gene also shared a much deserved Oscar win with Stan Winston, Dennis Muren and Robert Skotak for their work on Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
As we lose yet another Terminator legend our thoughts go out to Gene and his family at this difficult time.

Gene WAS Fantasy II Film Effects – supervising the visual effects for SO many classics of the ’80’s. Gene gave me my big break in Hollywood when he asked me to set up a creature effects department at Fantasy II. Our first project together was FRIGHT NIGHT PART TWO, followed by STEPHEN KING’S IT, DANGER ISLAND and MAGIC IN THE WATER. I also worked for Gene in their model shop on shows like TERMINATOR 2 and ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN.
Gene also employed my brother, Bret, for most of his film career. He gave us both many great opportunities and he will be sorely missed.
If there’s a game of darts in the afterlife, Gene will be there!
