We were contacted by Edward Furlong Fan, Abbey Tewson Johnson, on Friday 21st June (2019) – Abbey contacted us following our update on Edward Furlong, regarding Eddie’s recent interview.
Abbey met Edward at a convention and was able to ask him a few questions about addiction, recovery and his side of the story regarding his ill-fated involvement with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines as John Connor.
“He’s still alive! After spending the majority of 2018 in rehab, Eddie Furlong says he has been clean and sober for almost a year and a half, is working out regularly, and taking care of himself.

In response to his thoughts on the new Terminator trilogy currently in the works, he remained pretty tight lipped but offered a sincere “I hope so” when asked if he would ever return to reprise his iconic role. His honest humility is not only endearing and encouraging but also necessary for a leader in the making. The future is not set, ladies and gentlemen, and redemption is still on the table. John Connor was born to lead the resistance but Eddie Furlong may be the real hero here, quietly fighting his demons and proving recovery is possible.”
On the subject of why Eddie was replaced by Nick Stahl, as John Connor in T3…
“He admits it was his struggle with drugs that prevented his highly anticipated return as John Connor in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines back in 2003. “’It’s the growing pains of me’”, Furlong explained, “’I was part of the project and had a very nice deal but then I guess to celebrate I went out and overdosed on coke and kind of destroyed that whole thing. BUT…. I learned my lesson and I’m back on track.’”

We had previously been emailed by Terminator Fan Dylan Lopez, Dylan had also met Eddie at a recent convention. Dylan said:
“Man Eddie looks great! The last time I saw a picture of him he looked a little out of shape but you can tell that he’s lifting now, his biceps looked pumped and his stomach is smaller. He’s such a nice guy!!”

Recovering from any kind of addiction is always going to be a long tough road but Edward very much appears to be focused on making changes to turn his life around and get in shape both physically and mentally.
We wish Edward the best, and hope he continues on with his recovery!

I dont want Furlong as John Connor? I dont know, why? For nostalgy? He is bad actor. No thanks.
I wouldn’t mind him coming back.
However more than likely, he is working out as part of his current rehabiltation effort.
GOOD LUCK EDDIE!
His awful “acting” ruined T2.
You already know that he was recognized as the best child actor at the time?
He still looked good as a boy, but later on as a teenager and as the man he is today, I certainly don’t want to see him anymore. Unfortunately, it has become a giant baby.
Eddie is a wonderful, honest, sincere, emotional, talented actor. Every role he carries through his heart. Yes, he is no longer that handsome boy, but with age, everyone’s appearance changes. Perhaps the movie Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines would have been more successful if Eddie played John Connor there. I am from Russia, and there are many fans of Eddie, and they all are waiting for his return to the movie “Terminator”. I believe that Eddie will have everything ahead!
