Mattson Tomlin, writer and showrunner of the upcoming Skydance and Netflix Terminator Anime, is visiting his childhood home and has dished up some nostalgia bait for Terminator Fans, a doll of Arnold Schwarzenegger from Terminator 2: Judgment Day‘s theme park attraction Terminator 2 3-D: Battle Across Time.

No, apparently the doll wasn’t a recent ebay purchase…

“I got this guy when I visited Universal studios when I was 10 years old. Right after doing T2 Battle Across Time!”

Here are more images of the T-800 Terminator collectible that was made in 1997.

Also in the image is the other half of the front page of script which Mattson recently teased, and seemingly reinforces the possibility of Schwarzenegger having a role in this Netflix series, whether that be large or small in regard to voice work; the T-800 should have plenty of reference in the plot.

So, now we can now piece together both halves of the front of the script – the date has changed, a second draft? Or was the first image a mock-up to whet the appetite and get Tomlin’s creative juices flowing?

Previous Terminator movie directors like Jonathan Mostow, McG and Tim Miller all proclaimed themselves to be Terminator Fans… so nostalgia doesn’t really work on us anymore in that regard. However we’re sure that there are many fans that still get a warm fuzzy feeling off this retro Schwarzenegger / Terminator collectible.

Sadly, due to the distrust garnered by previous productions, and the waffle fed to fans by previous directors and studios, Mattson Tomlin is just going to have to prove it with his Terminator Anime pudding.

I’m inclined to be pessimistic about anything having to do with Terminator or Netflix.

Reasons for the former go without saying, but as for the latter? Even a visually stunning adaptation like Castlevania is marred by an overemphasis on sex a la Game of Thrones, the writer taking the opportunity to establish that Alucard, the son of Dracula, is bisexual, denigrating Christianity while glorifying Islam, and very catty, snarky, silly Twitter dialogue between characters.

In short: getting overtly political & taking too much license with an already established property.

So what would that look like for a Terminator anime series on Netflix? Probably exactly like what we’ve gotten already in the films, but even more graphic, irreverent, and insufferable. Note that I don’t have any problem with it being gritty, realistic, or humorous, like the first two films. But I figure chances are high that any writer given a license like Terminator to write for will not think twice about injecting too much of themselves into the story.

Tomlin looks ok. Especially after Little Fish and Grundy.

But anime? And series? With Skydance for Netlix? 😀 😀 After watching 6 Underground, Gemini Man or Old Guard…, I try to get rid of the bitterness in my mouth even today 😀 When I think of Ghost In the Shell – there was always a reason, including why something flies through the air. Great atmosphere of kowloon city. And music!!!!! In my opinion, this will be more Fast and Furious with the hope that the anime and stylized animation will absorb it, whatever the original script was 😀

I like first four movies ((or 1,2,4 and half of T3). But Skydance? No, thanks! Tomlin should have done a screenplay for a film under capable producers. It is not for nothing that the last two films are told of a missed opportunity (the essences were there…) But execution…

Been following this guy mattson on his socials for a while now and I gotta say I have serious doubts about the anime. He’s proud of being WOKE. You guys should read the script that got him the batman gig. Kill the leopard. Dumb and WOKE. just look at this dumbass, he even got a tat to prove he’s AWAKE. LMFAO. The Anime’s gonna be some stupid virtue signalling crap that has nothing to do with what us fans really want.
