Recently Arnold’s Schwarzenegger’s likeness/appearance was unveiled with the ‘Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack’ trailer (below). The gaming tie-ins to promote the upcoming release of T:DF – like Sarah Connor (Gears 5) and the T-800 (MK11) are definitely the better end of the lacklustre marketing of Dark Fate.
The likeness to Arnold in MK11 is actually pretty damn good! Our only problem is that the character looks like a hybrid/merge of Genisys’ ‘Pops’ (costume) and Dark Fate’s ‘Carl’ (beard and hair). In the Terminator character trailer for MK11’s Kombat Pack Arnold even strikes the Terminator Genisys poster pose, and because we didn’t like Genisys it just brings back bad memories for us but if you liked Genisys you won’t have a single problem with the T-800 in the trailer.
Although Schwarzenegger refused the use of his voice for the game, which may or may not be due to the apparent conflict with his political views/past motions as Governor; this included the AB 1179 bill which restricted the sale and rental of violent video games. Many deemed this hypocritical for a man who made his name in violent movies.
In our opinion Arnold should have voiced his T-800 character in Mortal Kombat and if his Terminator has to be politically correct on the big screen maybe it would be nice for fans of The Terminator to see him smashing Johnny Cage to a bloody pulp on the small screen…. Just sayin.
While many will find the lack of Arnold’s voice unsatisfactory, fans will have to be thankful we got his likeness in a game like this at all but it remains to be seen if we will have a mediocre or decent voice impersonator along for the ride.
The T-800 character itself has recently been spotted in a Twitch livestream called ‘Kombat Kast Livestream‘ by NetherRealm Studios (the developers of Mortal Kombat 11) while showcasing a new co-operative game mode called ‘Team Raid‘, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator T-800 was staring viewers in the face!
There is no doubt it is going to be fun to carry out Terminator fatalities as Schwarzenegger in-game and hopefully the voice artist chosen can make us believe it’s Schwarzenegger… the other option? Go back to the roots and have Arnold say very little and acquire a license to old sound bites but maybe it’s too late to take that route now.
Are you looking forward to playing as Arnold in the next couple of weeks when he drops in MK11?
