A new interview with James Cameron reveals more information of his involvement in the movie; talking about the return of Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger to their famous roles.
At 8:24 and 12:40 of the following interview with Flicks and the City, James Cameron states that the movie is indeed Rated R. How soft that R will be is still a question that fans looking for a much darker toned movie will be asking but so far it’s good news concerning an age rating.
Thanks to Terminator Fans – Darren Dilliway (Twitter), and Eric Fetchet (Facebook), for sharing the video with us.
It appears that the above video may have been removed, so we have transcribed the relevant sections where Jim discusses the rating of T:DF.
At around 8:24 in the video, Jim says:
“I think, tonally, what makes this a direct sequel to T1 and T2 is as much about the tone as it is about the narrative: it’s R rated, it’s grim, it’s gritty, it’s fast, it’s intense, it’s linear. The whole story takes place in 36 hours. It’s not this kind of grandiose, complex story. It’s just very focused on the characters, it’s very now, it’s very present and it’s just a fast white-knuckle ride.”

At around 12:40 Jim says:
“So Sarah has become a Terminator hunter, she’s not waiting to be hunted by a Terminator, she hunts them. She’s figured out a way to be there when they pop through time and she just blows their shit away. pretty much that simple – hey, it’s gonna be an R rated movie, so I can swear.”

Yes! Someone complained about “china-market friendly” issue without acknowledging other R-rated styff can be released in Chinese Mainland with some cut. As basic mindset stay away from PG-13 it can be done.
Oh wait, the old T3 was actually rated R…
Jim’s words about the R-rating give me a tiny flicker of hope………….very tiny.
the suspicious deletion of the video scares me that the studio will slice the movie up to force a PG-13 rating.
Paramount/Skydance/whatever else company:
“No, we’re saving that for whatever edition blu-ray dips”
They pretty much show Dani Ramos’ brother getting killed in a car crash in the trailer, so my guess is it will be very dark.
Glimmer of hope. That trailer did this movie no justice… I’m hoping this falls into the ‘bad trailer, good movie’ category. Hopefully the next trailer shows us what this movie is really made of.
I think trailer made really good work. It give it lots of visibility. They can fix this with second, better trailer.
CGI looks very bad … Also what about the soundtrack ??? I am a little bit upset about this trailer. I hope it is going to be a good movie while it has a bad trailer, agree with T305
CGI is actually very very good in here. Only obvious CGI that can be spotted is Rev 9 throwing the Metal Pipes, looks like from a video game, i guess they were on the clock and didn’t have time to add few more layers of texturing and grading. More layers – more time to render =)))
But from what they have show in the first trailer is like 80% CGI, and it looks very natural, to the smallest detail of things like trees, ground, dust.
