Wikipedia description of Motion Capture AKA as MoCap:
Motion capture (Mo-cap for short) is the process of recording the movement of objects or people. It is used in military, entertainment, sports, medical applications, and for validation of computer vision[2] and robotics. In filmmaking and video game development, it refers to recording actions of human actors, and using that information to animate digital character models in 2D or 3D computer animation.[3][4][5] When it includes face and fingers or captures subtle expressions, it is often referred to as performance capture.[6] In many fields, motion capture is sometimes called motion tracking, but in filmmaking and games, motion tracking usually refers more to match moving.
The viz (visual) part of the Mocap-(VIZ) potentially could stand for pre-viz/pre-visual- obviously you can capture a stunt person’s performance on green screen or on set.
We know that Tim Miller is pre-visualising some scenes, which overall could be choreographing sequences/action in the movie or contributing towards visual effects shots later on- after pre-production is over.
Yes, motion capture is what brings Avatar to life and the most recent Planet of the Apes films; maybe Andy Serkis will be playing the next Terminator villain since he’s the Mo-Cap god.
We do know that an Hispanic stuntman is being sought out to possibly play the new villain,- this was an exciting prospect to have a Terminator to do some stunts without needing CG, if the motion capture is just for prep work that is completely fine but if production is going to be heavily reliant on motion capture and heavy CG we are personally not going to be happy.
We still worry about the next Terminator movie but on the positive side it is nice to see tons of prep work going into this movie and hopefully the viz work is prepping for mostly real stunts, that would be very cool if that is the case. Hopes are also high for some imaginative, authentic practical sets by production designer Sonja Klaus.

It seems like movies that lean more toward practical effects tend to be better movies, but u think that’s more because it’s a reflection of the love and effort being put into a project, not anything intrinsically bad about CGI.
As long as it looks good and serves the story, I say use whatever works.
I thought the Avatar CGIs for living beings was very good. Let’s wait and see if the cyborgs turn out the same.
I wanted to keep quiet about this but i’m too sick and tired now, someone, ANYONE has to say it because I really really really hope that they learned their lessons after Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys
Terminator needs TOTAL REVAMP, a complete remake/re-imagining, a completely serious back to basics approach in tone and scale (the first 1984 style, smaller budget)
no more kid friendly PG-13 watering downs
no more stupid jokes, unnecessary comedy and sassy attitudes,
no more horribly mismatched casting choices (example: a bully-faced, beefcake Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese ? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME ?)
no more over-the-top super-powerful bad guys
no more steel statue (supposedly flesh and blood human?) good guys
no more excessive, cartoony-looking CGI saturation
no more cheap shock shlock plot twists (example: “oppsie we are too lazy to come up with anything interesting so let’s shit on John Connor and turn him into a villain !”)
(as for the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series, IMO it was a hit and miss, sure there are moments and episodes that are quite impressive/okay for a TV format terminator show, in fact i think it was the only tolerable post-T2 “sequel” so far, but there was a lot of just awful to balance the positive out)
EDIT: and yes keep Arnold away from this one, it was already a mistake bringing him back in T3, it was an absolute disaster including him in T5Genisys, i’m sorry Arnold but you ironically ruined this series/franchise (Post-T3).
