Fans battled on Twitter to unlock the trailer via the hashtag #TerminatorUnlock. The trailer revealed a big plot twist which was, honestly, very obvious to us from set photo leaks of John Connor (Jason Clarke) holding his arm out as if doing something visual effect-y and it was obviously him (Clarke) that Arnold was throwing through a wall with in earlier trailers.

People find the John Connor thing quite shocking,- even though this was originally the planned ending for Terminator Salvation (before the ending leaked and it was changed). John Connor (Christian Bale) was going to die and then his face was to be surgically transplanted onto Marcus Wright’s head. This would have been how John Connor got that famous facial scar and obviously would have kept the legend of John Connor alive.
Terminator Genisys will not be using that exact scenario but we will tell you it is indeed the real John Connor… but also a Terminator.
The trailer still deceives the viewer and John Connor being a Terminator in the movie is not the only twist in the movie.

@TerminatorFans I have bad feelings about it. It’s only trailer, but so far – it’s not Terminator I was expecting. @Terminator — Petar (@p_e_t_ar) April 13, 2015

Great plot twist! As long as they clean up some of the effects (some parts looked too shiny, like with the Centurion and 1984 Arnold’s face didn’t look quite right yet) and manage the humor, this could be a welcome addition to franchise. I love the direction they took this. Any reboot/re-tread where it was another chase flick running from machines wouldn’t have added anything 30 years later.
Totally agree. The humor shown in the trailer doesn’t bother me – it isn’t cringe worthy like the T3 crap. Even the Arnold smile thing is kind of funny, albeit not super original. I think it is funny because the T-800 endos look like they are smiling all the time. Maybe the default facial expression of the flesh covered T-800s is really the big smile and the normal “serious” face is a forced setting.
In all seriousness, some people will hate the direction they are going in with this movie. I don’t blame them but I think it is kind of cool. Love it or hate it, no one can argue it isn’t peaking everyone’s interest and that alone is important.
If this was going to be a reboot more true to the original and have it be interesting I think they would have had to make it really brutal and go more the way of a horror movie, which is the genre James Cameron meant the first movie to be. There is no way a movie like that would be made now, there is too much potential for profit with a Terminator movie to risk it being an “R” rated, super violent movie.
I’d been wondering why Jason Clarke was getting so much exposure in the promotional material considering the role he plays. Hope that isn’t the film’s biggest plot twist.
It isn’t the trailer deceives you at least once ; )
So are the recently leaked plot spoilers (the REALLY spoiling ones) up to date with the current version of the film? Because with the trailer, those plot points do line up with what I see.
It’s not at all, Machine John it’s just the main antagonist. I think what we would see, as the major plot conduits, is who sent back a reprogrammed t800 to the 60’s and why. And what the heck is Genisys(genetic systems?) maybe some kind of Cyberdine from another timeline?
esa sonrisa da miedo sobretodo si es de una maquina 😛
Si, I thought it was good. Sí. Pensé que era bueno.
I hope it will be a good Terminator movie… The twisted plot with John Connor is a good idea. But… spoilers!
I really hope all the “spoilers” in the trailer are something that happen in the first hour of the movie. 0:40, holy hell Emilia looks like Linda Hamilton there. First time I thought she actually fits the role. The CGI starting at 2:00 (the windshield & the “flying” don’t look really good. Not the T-1000 itself but all else in those scenes look like they just don’t fit in there.. the action is floating or however I’d describe it. Kind of like old time backrounds. You know, James Bond downhill skiing type 🙂
This trailer and the first one must be seen several times in order to discover what’s behind. Machine John was shown as the main antagonist, not a plot twist at all. I’m guessing they are trying to fix all the plot holes and connect all the movies together(something like Days of future past). If you think about it, machine John could be and advanced T-X, developed after researches made on Marcus Wright. Maybe machines from the altered timeline captured John, modified him to be a cyborg or maybe they put his memories on a terminator. If you remember, T-850(from T3) mentioned John was killed in 2032, but nothing was told about what happen with the body. Maybe skynet captured the body, and made the new model based on Marcus Wright.
