The first notable thing on removing the protective wrap on the Zoom Exclusive Futurepak is… this steelbook is damn shiny and nostalgic for memories of Robert Patrick’s T-1000 character and for T2 3-D: Battle Across Time;- we’ve mentioned the “bucket head” comparison/connection previously when Arnold’s T-800 uses a Mini-HK to decapitate an Endoskeleton and the head flies up toward the sky in a 3D gag in the Universal Theme Park Attraction.
Of course for fans of Terminator Genisys it will evoke memories of Arnold’s head sinking into liquid metal but while TheTerminatorFans.com staff are not really fond of the Terminator Genisys movie this steelbook does hold some worth for collectors. The Endoskeleton on the front of the steelbook does look like it is cackling with laughter but that isn’t so far away from the movie itself when Arnold does his massive grin towards Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) as he declares “it is nice to meet you”.
On viewing the steelbook in the cybernetic flesh (and not just viewing images online) the most standout feature is the impressive embossing of the steelbook itself; giving a 3D quality to the Terminator Genisys logo and the detail of the Endoskeleton Skull emerging from mimetic poly alloy, the embossing just isn’t a simple raise of the entire skull but has sectional/segment detail of features like the eye sockets and the nose- which is pretty cool, you will find yourself rotating the futurepack left and right just to refract the light and view all of the detail. The liquid metal design carries over to the back of the steelbook in good chrome/metallic fashion and glistens.
The inside features Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Guardian/Pops T-800 and Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) with a flurry of nano bot disintegration, which can be considered a very nice touch, instead of just opening the steelbook to nothing at all (don’t you hate it when that happens). These are the finer details that fans/collectors appreciate. The discs themselves are nothing really new for fans who have bought previous home editions of Genisys with the cerulean color disc being the standout.
This is a 4K release, so of course it is the optimal picture quality for the movie on the home release market, haven’t made the leap to 4K yet? Don’t worry you get the standard Blu-Ray too and special features thrown in for good measure but we all know we came here for the packaging.
Zoom have done a great job at adding the collectible purchase factor and validating a repurchase from people who like the movie.
Overall we look forward to Zoom doing more steelbooks in the Terminator universe.
