Now, initially when we managed to confirm our Exclusive story on the age rating we did some digging and found out the movie had a 12 rating in Hungary… this led us to presume it could be a 12 in the UK… it is in fact a 12a (UK equivalent to PG-13) which means anyone under the age of 12 can go to see Terminator Genisys providing they are accompanied by an adult/parent/guardian (pun intended).
Even advanced events/official previews have been advertised as having children viewers…
We had initially thought it could be 12 because Terminator Salvation was a 12… could this mean the movie will have a similar violence level to Terminator Salvation?… this would also explain the rating hold back which Terminator Salvation also did. Will Terminator Genisys be the softest toned Terminator movie EVER? As things seem to get more diluted with each movie.
The movie also passed ‘UNCUT’ which means they didn’t even have to remove any content which does indeed show that the movie knew what rating it was aiming for from the offset… still why do the official trailers and movie assets not declare the age rating?

hey let’s make a movie about a killer cyborg, call it the TERMINATOR, then fuck with james Cameron’s masterpiece and tone down the violence and make a TERMINATOR something all little kids can enjoy. Fuck this pg-13 garbage.
But…but..James Cameron loves it. lulz
Hummm… that’s smells really, really bad…
It’s a shame really – this franchise clearly should have always remained Rated R.
I don’t just say that for the sake of being able to experience bloody, gory, nudity and expletive-laden film entries, but rather because the core theme and central narrative of ‘The Terminator’ completely warrants it.
A Science-Fiction IP about a nuclear holocaust, about man vs. robots covered with living human tissue (or cybernetic organisms), and about the unimaginable horrors which are associated with such events undoubtedly warrant an R rating.
I can understand that T5’s producers are concerned about their ~$170,000,000 USD investment – sure, it’s a lot of money. That said however, the ‘Terminator’ films remain some of the most beloved of the genre (the first two). And sadly, since T3, it’s slowly been run into the ground due to greed and stupidity. And if T5 continues that trend because of more poor decisions, well, I suspect that far more fans than ever before will finally say “hasta la vista, baby” permanently.
In the UK, the 12 certificate is only for home media, not the movie theatres, the only option we have are PG, 12A, 15 and 18 certificates.
Its a kids film now. Same thing they did with Robocop. Brings a tear to my eye.
When Robocop says “or there will be… trouble..” that really used to mean something!
12A and 12. Best certificate.
