Australian actor Jason Clarke is in talks to star as John Connor in Terminator: Genesis. He has been offered the role and his management are now negotiating. If he gets the role this will set John Connor’s age in the movie to his mid 40s. This obviously means he never died in 2032 at the hands of the T-850 after all this is a reboot! Ignore all the movies before because they never happened according to Genesis.
Did you also notice his initials are the same as John Connor’s, James Cameron’s and Jesus Christ. J.C. (we all know Terminator was ripped off from the bible but with killer cyborgs added instead of romans.
He has worked for Megan Ellison before on Annapurna Pictures projects like Zero Dark Thirty and Lawless. It was originally stated that Alan Taylor was interested in Tom Hardy but it is unknown if he was approached and also if he wanted to take the role on.
Jason being cast in the role is obviously to give the character of John Connor a part in the future, the plan could be to make a movie that goes from past to future and so forth, with two plots weaving in and out of each other much like the plan for the TV show.
Unless the plan is for John Connor to go back in time to protect his mother and father from The Terminator (Arnold) then we can expect to see some of the future war or time travel in this new re-imagining of the Terminator franchise. The plan is supposedly to recreate the plot/foundations of the first movie (The Terminator) and then to take the franchise in a new direction with two sequels that will end the Terminator story. With the clock ticking they have until 2018 to make 3 movies before Jim Cameron gets back his rights and ownership. People can’t wait for Jim to get the rights back because they believe he will make a new Terminator movie but he may shut down Terminator for good. Will he allow people to continue making movies for a price or will he stop people from being able to make Terminator movies for the rest of his life?
It is a reboot, it will star Arnold Schwarzenegger but no other cast members will return. The new TV show will not be a continuation of TSCC and it will be set in the world and context of the new rebooted movie franchise.
