In the Hot Tub Time Machine 2 there’s a line about how the plot for this movie “just like Terminator”. It’s a funny joke, but it’s not true. Terminator is about protecting the future via the present (or past, depending if you’re a time traveler or not).
Another interesting Studio connection is that the movie is being released by Paramount (New Terminator Movie) and MGM (The Terminator -1984 License owners)
I admit the plot point of protecting one of the friends from dying is sort of similar to Kyle protecting Sarah. But only in the way that peanut butter is like jelly just because you can use both ingredients to make a sandwich.
However it is a decent Terminator Reference in a Paramount movie in the lead up to the new Terminator movie.
Will I be seeing this movie? Yes. I liked the first one and the Red Band trailer for this movie made me burst out laughing.
