Terminator: Dark Fate Nominated For 2020 Taurus World Stunt Awards

Terminator: Dark Fate Taurus World Stunt Awards

Terminator: Dark Fate has been nominated for two Taurus World Stunt Awards categories this year but the outcome of those nominations has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The awards were initially set to take place May 9th 2020 but with CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines, there have been restrictions on events and gatherings of more than 50 people.
Arnold Schwarzenegger also recently postponed the ‘Arnold Sports Festival’ event in line with these guidelines, for the safety of visitors to the fitness expo.

The voting for the Taurus World Stunt Awards concluded on April 3rd 2020.

BEST WORK WITH A VEHICLE

The following movies are all in the running to win the award for ‘Best Work With A Vehicle‘ – The nominations are:

Terminator: Dark Fate is nominated for the chase sequence involving a Mexican highway, between a service/construction truck (REV-9) and the movie’s protagonists; Grace Harper, Dani Ramos and Diego Ramos.

“A woman is driving a pick-up truck to evade a Terminator who is driving a super-sized construction truck with a scoop with teeth. The Terminator’s truck crashes into other vehicles, a taco truck and outdoor seating, and freeway railings. The chase makes its way onto a freeway, as the woman drives the pick-up truck in reverse up an on-ramp. On the freeway, the Terminator continues to crash into other vehicles and rear end the pick-up truck. All driving was done practical.”

The following movies are all in the running to win the award for ‘Best Stunt Coordinator and/or 2nd Unit Director‘ – The nominations are:

Terminator: Dark Fate’s second unit director / supervising stunt coordinator, Philip J Silvera, was also responsible for directing the stunts and action for the service truck chase in Dark Fate.
Silvera has been working with Tim Miller on action design for over 12 years.

Freddy Bouciegues, Balázs Farkas, Mike Massa, Philip J Silvera, Cuco Usín are listed for the award nomination.

Philip Silvera told TheTerminatorFans.com that…

“1st unit (Tim Miller) will always shoot the actors portion of the sequence, 2nd unit will shoot the portions of the sequence with biggest stunts and actor in a big stunt shot.”

Philip J Silvera

Silvera went on to explain that Gabriel Luna and the 2nd Unit had a very close working relationship during Terminator: Dark Fate but also that even though Tim Miller was hands-on in filming the close-ups/intimate shots with the lead cast; Silvera was very much involved with many of Gabriel’s scenes in the Mexican highway chase.

“Gabriel worked a lot with 2nd unit as he was in a lot of the stunt sequences throughout the film. Although I directed a lot of Gabriel Luna’s close-ups in that particular sequence.”

Philip Silvera also stated:

“It truly is a proper team effort.”

Mr. Silvera also wanted to thank his team:

“Mike Massa was my stunt and Vehicle coordinator for the car sequence. Mike Ryan (REV-9 driving double), and Debbie Evans (driving double for Grace).
Lance Gilbert and Jimmy Roberts we’re also key members of that chase sequence. Enikő Fülöp was the Mackenzie Davis stunt double riding in the back of the truck.
‘Action Factory’ led by Jayson Dumenigo handled all of my stunt rigging for that sequence, as well all the other stunt sequences.
Micah Karns, my fight coordinator, worked with Gabriel Luna on all the movement for the REV-9 on the truck.”
