Who Could be the Next Kyle Reese?

I don’t have high hopes for the Terminator reboot and it seems less and less likely that the new Terminator tv show will begin to compare to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. When I see the Terminator Reboot (now titled Terminator Genesis), I will try to enter with an open mind. But I highly doubt good things will come of it.

I would go off on a rant about the dangers of rebooting something and why continuing the storyline in Terminator Salvation is a much better option, but this isn’t the time for that.

Instead I will be looking at those who are being considered to play the role of Kyle Reese.

There is Boyd Holbrook who played Kyle in The Host. Now I haven’t seen The Host because it’s based on the worst book I have ever read in my life and I am a huge bookworm so that’s not something I say lightly (and, no, it isn’t because it’s written by Stephenie Meyer). So I can’t base my opinion of his acting chops from that role. However, I have seen the Hatfields & McCoys tv mini-series and I don’t remember a bad performance in it. But Holbrook’s performance didn’t have a lasting impression on me.

Another Kyle hopeful is Thomas Cocquerel who I am not familiar with at all. He is however an upcoming Australian Actor.

Wilson Bethel is also being considered for the role and has been in the mini-series Generation Kill. I have been recommended this series by my fiance, but have still yet to see it. I don’t recognize anything else of his and so I can’t judge him but he does have a look of Michael Biehn.

Wilson Bethel pulls a Biehn face in bed.

Sam Reid has been in Hatfields & McCoys also and so I know he can act.

Jai Courtney is the final person being considered for the role and I feel the most hopeful for the role of Kyle Reese. I have not seen A Good Day to Die Hard but he’d need to be able to appear to be a badass for the role (and from the trailers he seems to pull off that part). And when being Kyle Reese you need to kick serious butt.

I don’t know how well Courtney can step into Michael Biehn’s shoes, but I do think he’s the best bet so far. Is this opinion biased since I’m hoping he’ll do good in the Divergent movie being released in March of this year? Possibly.

The webmaster of the website says he thinks, based on looks alone; that Wilson Bethel would be his best choice as it’s the nearest to Biehn as possible and he feels Biehn himself defined this role and the look would fit better than the other options.

And, remember, just because Terminator Genesis will most likely suck doesn’t mean there won’t be a good performance or two in it.
