TRANSFORMERS vs. THE TERMINATOR Comic Issue #2 Artwork

IDW Publishing, in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics, have now revealed a look at covers for issue 2 of the comic miniseries ‘Transformers Vs The Terminator’ which is set to release in March.

David Mariotte, John Barber, & Tom Waltz (w) • Alex Milne (a) • Gavin Fullerton (c)

Issue 2 Cover A by Gavin Fullerton shows what looks to be Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator from The Terminator (1984) crouched down in his arrival position with Optimus Prime looming over the time displacement sphere.
Is this riffing on nostalgia, or is there more to this than meets the eye…

David Mariotte, John Barber, & Tom Waltz (w) • Alex Milne (a) • Casey W. Coller (c)

Issue 2 Cover B by Casey W. Coller shows heavily a damaged T-800 Terminator Unit with a phased plasma rifle standing victoriously atop fallen iconic autobots from the Transformers series.
This Terminator is also wearing Arnold’s iconic leather jacket and combat pants combo from the first movie… could this be the very same Terminator Unit from 1984’s the Terminator or a different T-800?

Also, another piece of the plot has been revealed:

“The T-800, last hope of his kind, has travelled back to 1984 to destroy the Cybertronians before they can awaken and subjugate his future. But when the Ark systems start to bring the Autobots and Decepticons back online, what will he do against two armies? It’s up to one Terminator to save the future and nothing’s gonna stand in his way!”

This is a completely new mission, as the Terminator is going to save the world AND battle the Decepticons – so if this is Arnold’s bad T-800 Terminator from the first movie then something drastic is going to have to happen to take the plot in a compeltely different direction (and objective) from terminating Sarah Connor.

Of course this could just be another T-800 altogether, and the covers are just playing on the iconic imagery from the first Terminator movie to make the covers more collectible for fans. Either way it will be interesting to see what direction this story takes – and as always – we can probably expect more than one T-800 in this story as it also takes place in the future (judging by that plasma rifle).

As usual there are incentives for retailers who order 10 copies – they get one free variant cover by Freddie E. Williams II!

Issue 2 of Transformers Vs The Terminator is 32 pages long and has a retail price of $3.99

*IDW stated that the retail price is “$3.99” the price stated is in conflict with the price printed on the cover art – the source of this information was IDW.
