Tom Hardy to Play John Connor in Terminator 5?

So the director of the next Terminator movie (who won’t actually confirm he is the director but keeps talking about the 5th movie and knows what’s going on and when casting will take place) has now said he wants Tom Hardy to take on the role of John Connor.

The makers of the next Terminator sure know how to piss the fans off with their loose rumor news…

Tom Hardy hasn’t even had meetings with the owners or Taylor.
Now let’s get this clear it was on the cards that John Connor would be recast again after the failure of Terminator Salvation; Christian Bale took the flack for a bad performance just like Nick Stahl did for Terminator 3. Now we don’t so much blame the actors but we blame the scripts and directors/producers for the way the character was misrepresented.

In Terminator 3 John Connor was a whining, suicidal and frantic John whose past had caught up with him after he spent years believing they had permanently destroyed SkyNet and the machines with the events that took place in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

In Terminator Salvation John Connor didn’t have any character depth at all, the star of the movie was Marcus Wright (A Terminator seeking Salvation) so John Connor was a vacant character that was just used as a catalyst to- mistrust, then trust in a machine (once again) to save the day.

So what if we replace Christian Bale with Tom Hardy? Well it’s another actor change and we hate those and Hollywood loves to blame actors rather than their product. Passing the buck is rife here. The fans are now split in numerous directions. Each John Connor actor has a following, Furlong, Stahl and Bale all have fans who want them back.

So yet again we are to accept a new face as John Connor. The problem is Tom Hardy is playing Mad Max very soon and the visual style of the movie will be similar to Terminator Salvation because Terminator Salvation copied 3 movies… ‘The Wizard of Oz’ for the journey, the post apocalyptic setting of Cormac McCarthy’s Novel ‘The Road’ and the visual look of ‘Mad Max’.

Although the new Mad Max has had a troubled production we have some faith in it because the original director is directing it and although delayed it has not been rushed. So a glimmer of hope awaits.

Our problem comes with that Terminator main roles- we believe should be played by unknowns. The minute we start crossing the streams of big franchises (ghostbusters style) we have actors that remind us of other franchises.

Tom Hardy can play a badass but just like Christian Bale he is in many movies and even though we like Tom we worry that the role might not be right for him and for it to be right for him the movie would have be good and strong.

The simple fact is it may be necessary to find the ultimate John Connor and Hardy is an interesting choice compared to the other names released so far in the casting rumors but does this movie have any worth anymore?

Personally TheTerminatorFans.com excitement level for the new Terminator movie is 1 out of 10. We are now finding it an unbearable struggle to report on this movie because it is not a continuation but a reboot.

This is not what the original fanbase wanted.

We have covered more or less everything there is to cover since 2009 solidly. We didn’t want young snot nosed actors replacing iconic roles.

Rumors are now even suggesting Arnold Schwarzenegger will be a Terminator ‘protecting’ a young Sarah Connor.

This movie was promised to be R Rated by the owner when we tweeted her a while back but it smells of PG-13 already. Soft R does seem likely. Young actors for the younger generation to fantasize over sexually. An owner who is a fan of Game of Thrones and allows it to seep into her production of a Terminator movie.

Expect something similar to the Star Trek reboot if all these rumors are to be believed and in regard to Tom Hardy… Tom, if you read this be careful with your career in your decision for involvement in this movie.

Everything about this movie so far is as rotten as bad eggs.

This franchise died a long while ago… Now it just seems it’s all about re-birthing the franchise into something new but isn’t that what killed the franchise in the first place?

One word… BORING. This movie so far is all money, back-scratching and no real substance.

We feared a Justin Lin Fast and Furious cast Terminator movie… now all we have is Alan Taylor Game of Thrones trash… which is worse?
