THE TERMINATOR is BACK at Cannes Film Festival, Theaters and More!

The Terminator (1984) is a classic movie which made household names of; James Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd, William Wisher, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie stands the test of time,- even down to making the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Greatest Heroes and Villains- with The Terminator ranked at number 22 for villains. The Terminator was also added by the Library of Congress, in 2007, to a list of films which are deemed: “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant, to be preserved for all time”. This year The Terminator (1984) is being shown at the Cannes Film Festival as part of The Official Selection 2015 due to its cult status. The movie clearly still holds a large appeal to both fans and critics alike!

“John Connor gave me a picture of you once. I didn’t know why at the time. It was very old. Torn…faded. You were young, like you are now. You seemed just… a little sad. I used to always wonder what you were thinking at that moment. I memorized every line, every curve…”

Exciting new Teaser Trailer:

This is not only exciting news but also interesting news as well; MGM gained an exclusive 30-day negotiation window on Terminator Salvation due to the Orion bankruptcy back in the 1990s but Halcyon claimed that MGM no longer had distribution rights and sought a court declaration and injunctive relief.
The negotiation would have given MGM worldwide distribution rights to the amount of 200 million dollars and approval on overall budget as well as script, director and lead male but a firm deal was not decided after those 30-days,- which meant that Halcyon believed that they had the right to find other distributors. MGM then claimed that they had the right to stop Halcyon and force them back in to negotiations. An MGM spokesperson was quoted on Variety as saying:

“MGM is completely comfortable with its rights position on the TERMINATOR franchise, and we will not allow anyone to interfere with our rights.”

The distributers were eventually Warners Bros. Pictures (North America) and Columbia Pictures (Internationl), the latter being a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

MGM still retains rights of distribution over The Terminator (1984)… with the support of Cinema ’84 (A Greenberg Brothers Partnership- the Greenbergs were key investors and financial backers to Hemdale and Orion).

MGM clearly always wanted to be involved with the Terminator franchise- who can blame them?

The official MGM terminator.zone:

“The Terminator
In 2029, the war between man and machine has desolated the Earth, leaving humanity all but wiped out. Pockets of survivors remain – either living as slaves serving their technological overlords, or as resistance fighters attempting to overthrow the sentient defence network that controls the machines.

From this wasteland, two soldiers are sent back in time to Los Angeles, 1984 in order to influence the outcome of a conflict that hasn’t taken place yet. One is an unstoppable cyborg assassin, the other a human guerrilla fighter. Serving on opposite sides of the battle, they share the same target: Sarah Connor, an unsuspecting young woman whose unborn child will become the key to saving humanity.

Back in cinemas – June 2015”
