The Terminator (1984) Poster

The Terminator 1984 Poster

We took a look at the iconic poster featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger as ‘The Terminator’ . The first two Terminator movies had great posters featuring the Austrian Oak in two of the finest roles of his career. The power and popularity of the image obviously comes from simplicity mixed with the powerhouse of the Schwarzenegger machine.

Come Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation all imagination had been lost and instead CGI replaced anything that was good about Terminator posters. Floating T-850 and T-X heads were simple in concept but hideous in actuality and remember that below par Terminator Salvation poster with a T-600 that looked like it could have had its own spin off children’s TV series in which it goes around changing young lives with tales of morality and kindness.

The black desolate background of the first Terminator poster will always catch the eye as the red lasers spray out from behind Arnold Schwarzenegger in his peak. The image reeks of Tech Noir and dark technology. Arnold looks defined in character and not the unsure of himself T3 Arnold (we guess it is hard to be sure of yourself when your part of a farce and being paid more money for a lower quality performance).

The character’s ‘CSM-101’ garnered intrigue and once you know that it means Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 and that it defines the outer-layer of this cybernetic movie monster it always gives a intellectual reward to the hardcore fan.

His weapon the .45 Longslide with laser sighting is an iconic Terminator weapon and more so because it is featured in this poster. The .45 has grown in popularity over the years and from our experience more people mention the .45 than the UZI 9mm in reference to Terminator. That’s a pretty big deal.

The only real question this poster poses is… why is he shirtless? No T-Shirt?! He never appears in the movie like this. but it doesn’t matter one bit because this will remain on of the coolest posters and movies of all time.

We can only hope that Terminator 5 will bring back Arnold in a poster that lives up to the first two and similar in design. Bring back lasers! Blue, red or both would be nice to symbolize the clash of man and machine.
