Terminator Genisys WrestleMania Promo and Arnold Inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

WWE Terminator Genisys

For around a decade NBCUniversal (NBCU) and WWE have focused on two separate parts of advertising. NBCU focused on TV advertising of WWE programs like “Raw” and “Smackdown” while WWE focused on most of digital and social marketing. WWE also focused on getting word out about events and news concerning popular wrestlers like John Cena and Brock Lesnar.

But now that is changing with a much broader marketing plan.

So how does Terminator: Genisys fit into all of this?

Paramount, an asset of Viacom, (in the first marketing agreement made in the new broader marketing plan with NBCU and WWE) will promote Terminator Genisys. The movie that is the fifth movie in the Terminator franchise. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emilia Clarke among others.

The promotion started with WWE’s annual “WrestleMania” event. The promotion for the newest Terminator film will last until July, at which time the movie will hit theaters.

Also Arnold Schwarzenegger was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame…

Michelle Wilson, WWE’s chief marketing and revenue officer, thinks that the broader marking plan made a deal like the one with Viacom/Paramount possible. She thinks that without the new marketing plan, they would have never gotten the deal to promote Terminator: Genisys.

Other media and entertainment outlets are taking cues from WWE and NBCU’s broader marketing plan.

NBCU and WWE will suggest ‘tentpole’ efforts that will allow advertisers to strategize better. Such as advertisers aligning pitches with a month-long event building up to “WrestleMania”; an event that the WWE holds each year, the “Slammys” award program, among other things.

WWE and NBCU also hope to reel in more advertisers who seek a broad family audience.
