TERMINATOR: DARK FATE – If ‘Augments’ Are The Future… The Villain Is Kyle Reese

Terminator: Dark Fate Kyle Reese Villain

*This Article May Contain SPOILERS*

Recently Tim Miller, and the cast of Terminator: Dark Fate, have been doing the rounds to promote the latest instalment to the Terminator franchise (and the first of a newly planned trilogy) ahead of their appearance at SDCC 2019 in Hall H, as part of that promotion they have been doing interviews and expanding on certain information to ramp up the excitement of the fanbase and prospective audiences.

Some of the most interesting information has been in regards to Mackenzie Davis’ character of ‘Grace’ (possibly due to the production’s defence of Mackenzie, after what was deemed misogynistic criticism of the aesthetic of the character in the first image).

We had previously speculated, back in July 2018 (and again in November 2018) – that Mackenzie would be playing a human/Terminator hybrid in T:DF – to which we received some very legitimate comments on our website.

One comment from EzMoney, who said:

“Iv had the idea that if humans want to win the war against machines in the future they would also turn them selves into machines in a sense. Cameron obviously has touched on this in a more metaphorical sense for example the Sarah going after Dyson scene but I think if they wanted to further that theme and also play with the idea that Cameron has been talking about (How people living in 2018 are dependent on machines and “we all ready lost the war”) that perhaps future soldiers upgrade them selves with mechanical parts that give them an upper hand when fighting against machines.
So perhaps Mackenzie Davis’ character is one of these soldiers with enhancements”

And a comment from Juan Canino in response to Ez, who said:

“mmm I´m totally disagreed with you… If we the humans became machines our humanity had been lost. We need to fight back the machines with our virtues, our core values as a humans, love, faith, courage, justice, fortitude and sacrifice. I belive John Connor should represent as a the leader of the human resistance, all that values, in order to the human race prevail over machines.”

Juan Canino

Mackenzie herself would later confirm her hybrid status in April this year…

Mackenzie said:

“I can say that I’m an enhanced human being and I come to Mexico City under a mysterious mission to protect Dani Ramos played by Natalia Reyes, and that’s about it,”

Mackenzie Davis

*We discussed the comments by Ez Money and Juan Canino, as well as Mackenzie Davis’ statement, our  video titled:

“TERMINATOR 6: DARK FATE – Mackenzie Davis REVEALS ‘Grace’ INFO + REACTION” (Click link to watch)

Now Tim Miller has added to the information surrounding Mackenzie’s role, with a statement which confirms both comments made on our website…

Tim Miller said:

“Mackenzie is a revelation and what a badass she is, she’s faster than normal. She’s stronger than normal. You give her a set of futuristic weapons, and she is a force to be reckoned with. [Augments] are the shock troops in the future war. But they feel pain. They feel emotion. It’s a messy process; it’s imperfect; it’s not shiny and clean, but she’s fucking tough as nails.”

Tim Miller told Den of Geek

“Augments are the shock troops in the future war. But they feel pain.”

We already know that Mackenzie’s character of ‘Grace’ will be protecting Natalia Reyes’ character of ‘Dani Ramos’, and the recent leaks (which are looking more true with every new piece of information) along with the trailer, suggest that Dani Ramos is set to be the new leader of the resistance in the future war against super-computer Skynet, (Legion?).

So, it would be easy to think that Dani Ramos would be the person responsible for the existence of ‘Augments’. That would mean that a section of people were experimented upon (in order to progress to the stage where Augments exist – phase 1, phase 2, etc) at the behest of Dani Ramos.

Humanity has become as bad, if not worse, than Skynet… Worse? you may ask, yes, worse. Skynet cannot feel pity, remorse or fear -they can’t empathise but humans can.
The creator of the Augments has chosen to sacrifice their people in order to beat Skynet.

In Dark Fate Kyle was never sent back in time by John Connor thus he never died…

It now appears that Kyle Reese is responsible for Augments, or at least enforcing it?! Does this also mean that Kyle is the leader of the Resistance in this version of the timeline (because John Connor was murdered as a child, as suggested in the recent leaks). All this latest information seems to confirm it.

According to Tim Miller, Kyle is the reason Grace and others like her are in constant pain, need pain killers/medication, and from the sounds of it, have a short life cycle due to pain, damage and deterioration; making them expendable.

Tim said of Augments:

“They’re the first people to die”

Tim Miller told EW

On the changed future:

“There’s this new future because of what Sarah did at the end of Terminator 2, and it’s worse than ever,”

Tim Miller told EW

Then, and this one is a killer:

“Mackenzie comes from something that Kyle Reese and the Resistance did.”

Tim miller told EW

This new timeline seems riddled with victims; not least the good character of 1984’s Kyle Reese.

Could this also be what some of the reshoots are about?

Lucas DiMedio was listed on IMDb as “Dani’s Soldier” – another rogue Augment of the evil Kyle Reese?

It is possible that the ‘Augment’ program is an ‘opt in’ process but remember, we know that young Grace, Stephanie Gil, is in this movie – that would suggest that the enhancements began very early on into Grace’s life (unless we, as viewers, are shown via flashback the motivations for an ‘opt in’ situation to occur).

Who sent Mackenzie back – could it be that a section of the Augments went ‘black ops’ with a mission to dethrone Kyle Reese and bring to power a new, and more human, leader…  all hail Dani Ramos, the savior of mankind?

What kind of future can there be if we, as humans, throw aside our morality in order to win a war where the only survivors are the victims we have created?

Kyle Reese… what has become of you?! Could it be that in the newly formed version of the future – Kyle Reese never knew love and as such became a monster?

Oh dear me… Are we going to see Michael Biehn in full villain mode in Dark Fate? Will he be his current age, or a digital 1984 likeness?

Kyle Reese may consider his actions for the good of the many but…
