Terminator Anime Series Writer Teases The Genesis of Model 101

NETFLIX Terminator Anime Series Mattson Tomlin Script

Let’s face it, Mattson Tomlin, the writer of the upcoming Terminator Anime Series is chomping at the bit to talk about the new Terminator project, but he’s had to settle for teasing fans via Twitter instead. So, what could the story and focus of this Netflix anime be? Is The Terminator Anime series writer teasing the Genesis of Model 101? We think so…

The “Insane” teaser image of Mattson Tomlin’s laptop screen / monitor pays fan service and ticks a few boxes, although we’re not so sure how much weight fan service carries anymore with Terminator Fans who have become skeptical of this franchise (or have jumped ship) sheesh, even we feel duped by the last four movies – but for those of us wanting to embrace the project, nostalgia and fan service, it’s here baby!

If you always wanted a Terminator anime, this one’s for you!

The tease has that respectable nod to the original creators of Terminator; James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd, it has mentions of K-9 activity, be that the real Terminator spotting kind, or some SkyNet Terminator dog action… K-900 anyone?

Most importantly of all, it appears that the script (or what could be the title of Episode 1) includes the phrase ‘model 101‘; CSM-101 is of course is the outer flesh covering / living tissue Cyberdyne Systems Model number of the T-800 units that look like Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger. It seems a given then that Arnold should be involved in the series at some point, and it looks like Skydance have finally caved into possibly giving fans an origin story for why Terminators look like Arnold.

The new project from Skydance and Producer David Ellison (Terminator Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate), will see the studio partner with the streaming giant Netflix in an effort to officially take the Terminator franchise into the animated realm for the first time and also attempt to remove the nails from the franchise coffin and drag its corpse out for another bash at making some more money – with the Terminator Anime being your one stop shop for forgiveness in allowing Skydance to pump out more Terminator movies beyond 2021.
Mattson Tomlin being showrunner and writer, and Production I.G, the animation house responsible for Ghost in the Shell taking charge of the animation itself.

It feels like we still have some way to go before getting excited for this one, we don’t know what the animation looks like and Tomlin’s ‘The Batman’ is not ready to present as a true precursor to his writing talent in an existing property / franchise; so right now we’re… tentatively intrigued.

Are you looking forward to the Anime series?
