Terminator 2: Judgment Day Going 3D?

Terminator 2 3D

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the most beloved of the Terminator films and may be getting sucked into the 3D trend. Now 3D is not all bad as there have been a few 3D films that did 3D well. But for the most part it’s a way that people use it to make a quick buck.

James Cameron went to a screening of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and commented on how well he thought the graphics of T2 held up to today’s standards.

When interviewed at the Hero Complex Film Festival he had this to say:

“I think the CG holds up,” [Cameron] said. “You’d do it better now but it’s not an embarrassment. … Everybody takes CG for granted now, but at that slice of history … ‘T2′ had one of the first digital composites ever done in a movie. The success of the film hinged on that CG.”

I do agree that T2 did a great job paving the way for the current CG used in films as well as still looking good all the way into the 21st century.

I also understand why converting to 3D may be a good thing. If done correctly it will open a door for new Terminator fans to go through. Plus old Terminator fans will go into theaters to watch one of their favorite films in a new format. If the conversion is done poorly though; the news will spread fast and it won’t be as good of a success as it could’ve been.
