Terminator 2 3D International and Asia Posters

Well, these posters slipped past our intense scrutiny… the posters were released and updated to announcement posts on DMG’s official website on Dec 16th 2015; the day after the initial official announcements by DMG/STUDIOCANAL and Jim Cameron reported on Dec 15th 2015 on THR.

First up the international Poster…

The poster is a pale imitation of the real thing; resembling more a DVD release variant (one of many). Why does his skull go to the tip of his hair?  the skull is also off at the wrong angle,- battle damage non-existent and the image is a little too digital for our liking. However, it is an iconic image of Arnold (mainstream, polished Arnold) as good guy/Protector T-800. Use of the classic font and elements work okay as a concept. Why not give fans a 3D lenticular poster of Arnold on the Harley Davidson Fat Boy instead? #BackInBlack

We hope to see more posters,- a poster featuring the real star of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Linda Hamilton) as Sarah Connor would excite us more at this point. Also a T-1000 (Robert Patrick) he is ‘The Terminator’ in Terminator 2 after all! Linda and Robert are owed some more credit in this marketing plan.

Now for the real poster and the real release (Asia):

Terminator 2 3D is only happening because of Asia and thankfully this movie was made nearly 25 years ago and the ethics and climate of film-making today can’t destroy it… or can it? Many fans worldwide wanted a T2 3D movie conversion for many years but it took China’s inclusion to warrant it. China also owning a mass percentage of the movie market now also alters the way the industry operates as a whole.

Thanks to PG-13 age ratings and awful movies like Terminator Genisys; the Terminator property is now more popular in Asia (according to Hollywood propaganda that is desperately trying to ensure the survival of the PG-13 marketing model). It is the perfect out for not making movies fans want with all the horror and intensity which began in the first (and widely considered best) Terminator movie… THE TERMINATOR. The truth is even though the first 2 movies didn’t have mass theatrical releases in Asia, Terminator became popular in the Asian home release market… but to rely on that market alone and to class fans from any other geo location as unimportant is a foolish move; one that did no favors to Genisys. Remember that Asia fell in love with the dark roots and tones of the saga too… do we believe for one second that the majority of China, for example; prefer Terminator Genisys over the first two movies? We doubt that very much. Apparently Asian audiences are just as frustrated as we are and are also having to learn the hard way at the minute.

Our main T2 3D concern,- as stated, isn’t the movie itself (aside from some 25 year old grating one liners) our main gripe is how it will be handled, will the original cut be diluted or destroyed in any way with edits? Will they try to go for a PG-13 rating theatrically in any way (at least in Asia)?

We are also not big fans of 3D as that experience has never lived up to expectations, we hope the release will offer a (worldwide) home release showing T2 in the best quality yet for 2D and 3D viewers. Of course we can trust Mr. Cameron for some tweaks and polishing because that is the type of guy he is…

Right now we are at a disconnect with the franchise but of course we hope the release does well for Jim and shows the worth of Rated R financially, for fans and for the integrity of this franchise that has been absent for some time.

As always we still want a Jim Cameron trilogy and hope he continues the story he started with the first two movies. #CanonSequel please, happy to ignore the rest of the movies.
