Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D now has a release date in Japan- set for August 11th 2017; to be released by distributor Kino Films (Japan)! T2 3D will play at TOHO CINEMAS Daily Theater and others.
The first two Terminator movies did extremely well in Japan and it is technically where the Asian roots of the franchise’s success began, the board of film censorship in Japan (compared to China) is also not as strict, so Japan does indeed welcome R Rated Terminator movies with largely open arms.
It also seems that no date seems to be set for China yet even though the film was to be released there first (originally intended for the 25th anniversary LAST YEAR) but now we have a Japanese date set- it is likely a China date could follow and could indeed be of a similar date/release time frame before the US release, if that is not the case it could just be a tactical decision to allow the movie to successfully perform in other territories to allow more marketing buzz to be built around the China release with positive word of mouth of overseas success for T2 3D!
The success of Terminator Genisys in China validated the go ahead for Terminator 2: Judgment Day to be converted into 3D after hanging in the balance for a long time before then, so China is obviously very important strategically in terms of getting as much revenue as possible from China and this will be one of the priority goals for DMG Entertainment and STUDIOCANAL.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D is opening in many countries across the world and if you have been following the release date news you will see more and more dates are being added and we can see that fan demand is being listened to, which is good to see.
As always we do encourage fans to be patient but still feel free to be vocal in our comments about where you would like Terminator 2 3D to show; if it hasn’t been announced in your country yet! Various countries require different distributors to be able to bring T2 to different theater chains etc overseas, in some cases the process can be slower, some distributors also have to weigh up the appeal of Terminator 2: 3D’s release and also need to weigh up if a release is economically viable to do so in specific territories but don’t lose faith. Also it is important for fans to remember that no matter what… all The Terminator Fans WILL get a home release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D, again various distributors will pick up home release rights to bring the movie to your home screens and failing that you will always be able to import the release if you run out of patience!
