San Francisco Filming Continues on Fifth Terminator Movie

San Francisco Terminator Location

SFGate.com reports on new filming taking place in San Francisco:

“From 9 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday, crews will be filming around California Street and Powell Street downtown, using stunt cars and motorized cable cars to create chaotic city scenes, said Lauren Machado of the San Francisco Film Commission.

Drivers headed down California will be stopped during filming, with holds of around one minute, she said. Police officers will also be stationed around the area to advise drivers to avoid California Street. The crew has permits to film on California between Leavenworth and Powell streets.

Because the film is being shot after 10 p.m., the production company had to secure approval from scores of neighbors in the area, Machado said. The company handed out fliers to 1,500 neighbors, including hotels, and 1,111 responded. Nearly 99 percent of responses approved of the filming.

They’ll also film on Mission Street between First and Second streets from around 11 p.m. to the early morning. That area, unlike California and Powell, will be closed to shoot a scene in which extras flee “something computer-generated,” Machado said.

This past weekend, filming took place at the Bay Bridge, said Leah Robinson-Leach of Caltrans. Filmmakers also shot at the Golden Gate Bridge, and will be shooting there throughout the week, though the action will be subtle and won’t require any closures, said Denis Mulligan of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District.”

Initially it was reported that New Orleans (the first filming location) would be the location that replicates 1984 LA in the movie. It is now apparent that San Francisco is likely to be…  San Francisco in the movie and not San Francisco replicating another location.

San Francisco’s California Street is undeniably San Francisco in look and feel… The Golden Gate Bridge can be seen in the background… those of you will remember this as being the location SkyNet Central was built in, in Terminator Salvation. Could this movie be a reboot continuation after all?

California Street does have the trademark cable cars mentioned in the news… will one of these get derailed down the slope of California Street perhaps?

Scenes were also filmed the weekend just gone on the Bay Bridge. Here is an image of the new bridge and old bridge side by side.

We hope the scenes between First and Second Street don’t involve people fleeing from a giant CGI Terminator… a T-1000 would be just enough for us. Small liquid metal man chopping everyone to bits with his metal arms would be nice but unlikely. A time portal maybe?

So are you pumped to see San Fran on the big screen in the new Terminator movie?
