‘Peninsula’ Trailer Reworks Classic Terminator One Liner

Come With Me If You Want To Live Terminator Quote

The sequel to the successful South Korean zombie flick ‘Train to Busan‘ – titled ‘Peninsula‘ undeniably draws inspiration from pop culture; be it from the pack, stack and pile up zombies from World War Z, mixed with a little bit of The Walking Dead, Death Race, The Running Man, Battle Royale, and even a moment from The Terminator (though slightly reworked).

The line of: “Hop in if you want to live,” did however evoke less feelings of Kyle Reese in Tech Noir, or Uncle Bob in Pescadero but more Emilia Clarke in the armored truck from Genisys – which makes sense since the scene re-enacted in Peninsula is also carried out in a vehicle that slides to a halt to deliver the classic reworked one liner.
Funnily enough Skydance and Paramount Pictures (the studios responsible for Terminator Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate) were also responsible for the first World War Z movie adapted from the original novel by Max Brooks.
The sequel to World War Z was apparently put on hold for numerous reasons; due to contractual obligations from Brad Pitt with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, budgetary issues from Paramount Pictures (even though director David Fincher said he could keep the cost in line with the first picture’s budget) but also due to Paramount not wanting to move forwards on the follow-up movie after China put a ban on Zombie movies and the uncertainty of the China market at the time.
Though now, with South Korea being a better suited market (with the country’s love of horror and the recent successes of Train to Busan and thriller Parasite) we could possibly expect a World War Z sequel to kick into action due to the rise in popularity of this new zombie series…

Following the financial failure of Terminator: Dark Fate at the box-office; Paramount may not have been keen to jump into more big budget greenlighting (though the success of Sonic may see them in a better position than first thought), the damage being caused by COVID-19 and the delay of a major release like A Quiet Place II, may leave things a little uncertain.
