Newt is BACK in Aliens Sequel/Continuation Concept Art For Alien 5

Happy Alien Day!

It looks like Alien 5 will happen after all but  Ridley Scott wants to do his movie first (Covenant)… It’s hoped that this will make sure Alien 5 has a very long period of pre-production over at 20th Century Fox; to assure the movie is made in accordance with old fashioned values and production methods. Also, one would hope that they film the movie at Pinewood Studios in London to give the movie some of the retro class of Aliens and Alien 3.

Ripley (Weaver) had this to say at a recent Expo event:

Well, I *think* it is. Ridley asked Neill NOT to make our Alien til after Prometheus 2. He (Ridley) wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an AMAZING script, and Neill and I are REALLY excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we DIDN’T do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait.

Neill Blomkamp celebrating Alien Day by releasing another concept art for the movie…

Judging by the image; this would indeed be a continuation of the second movie, possibly ignoring subsequent sequels in favor of a reboot, unless they write this really smartly to be a canon sequel to the forth movie… We worry how this film will be executed- in terms of a franchise Alien is much more respected than Terminator is, the Alien brand thus far (except for the AVP series) has been targeted at adults and hasn’t sold out the fans quite as badly as studios have with the Terminator property thus far. They (studios) fucked up the fourth Alien movie badly in our opinion and it took a severe swerve of artistic direction and awful casting choices. Alien 3 we respect for staying true to the roots and traditions of science fiction horror set by the first movie.

Personally we can’t support the return of Newt unless Carrie Henn reprises her role. Yes, the image seems to depict her (Carrie) as Newt but investors and certain execs will have ideas about fucking the fans over for a passing-of-the-torch movie. Re-cast Newt and count us out also…

Check out this Fan Art we found on google of Emma Stone as Newt- a possible trendy corporate greed newt casting… Whoever made this picture can go fuck themselves… seriously.

However if you are making an Aliens sequel and you don’t invite James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd to the party then we are not going to take the movie as seriously as we should. If this film is not done 100% correctly then fans will tear 20th Century’s studio executives and the film’s director (Neill Blomkamp) a new asshole. The backlash would be worse than it was from the so-called “rabid” Terminator Fans.

Terminator has been fucked up so badly now that a lot of people would be glad if it didn’t get another sequel unless the original creative team are hands on with the project,- that original creative team again being led by Gale Anne Hurd and Jim Cameron.

Oh, and no- we don’t want to hear half the cast using south African accents in the movie just because Neill Blomkamp really likes the sound of his own voice. This is a preexisting franchise; it doesn’t need a total revamp, nor does it need demolition from the ground up.

The more you think about this movie the more it isn’t as clean cut as if James Cameron was to make a sequel to Terminator 2. Alien 3 actually made sense in terms of storytelling even if the movie wasn’t executed as perfectly as it could have been.

While resurrecting Michael Biehn’s Hicks would make great coherent sense in the overall current canon of the Alien series revival- Newt does not and is nothing more than sentimentality fueled by greed which aims for nostalgia.

Good luck 20th Century Fox, you’re gonna need it!

So the title of A5 should likely be… Aliens: Insert title here…
