As raging fans across the world demand canon sequels and for failed sequels/terrible movies to be de-canonized; a new trend has begun… you could say fans are taking back some control (not real control, obviously) but still kicking up enough of a shit storm which will leave studios with little choice but to follow what the majority of a fan base wishes for/demands in order to make sure those $$$$ pump back to studios.
Our users will know that demanding a true Terminator 2 Sequel has been a focal point of this very website for some time, as well as demanding R Rated Terminator movies that go back to the dark roots of this franchise.
The first movie however to start this trend off properly is a Halloween Sequel to the first movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis (Terminator missed the train again- last time it was the R Rated train it missed)- however we remain skeptical about Halloween Returns (the so-called title) as it seems they want to tweak the ending of the first movie and we don’t believe canon should be messed with in that way- what an asshat move.
Announcements quickly followed the Halloween announcement that Terminator 6 would be a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day starring Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger would be back with a new spin on his character (as always).
Now it really is RoboCop Vs Terminator because Ed Neumeier (co-writer and co-producer of the 1987 film RoboCop) is working on a sequel to the first movie, so it is time to say good bye to Nuke, RoboCain, Jet Pack RoboCop and the death of Officer Anne Lewis (more potential to bring back a strong female character with actress Nancy Allen).
Ed Neumeier on working on new RoboCop:
I think all of that came out of that and it’s nice that people are still interested in RoboCop and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we’ll get another one out of it.
Ed Neumeirer says it is a sequel to the first RoboCop movie:
Well, here’s what I’ll say. We’re not supposed to say too much. There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.
We know that Rated R is now returning and in full force (as we predicted a long time ago) but now ultra violence is the next step and that means Hard R’s and the NC-17 label could make a fashionable return and please don’t talk trash and tell us that NC-17 is porn because it isn’t always; X Rating is porn and NC-17 only became unfashionable to Hollywood for cash grab purposes and the love of the PG-13 business model.
If RoboCop does go back to its hardcore ultra violent roots and does it well- and Terminator 6 does not up the anti here, then Tim Miller’s Terminator movie could end up looking like a laughing stock. The first RoboCop movie was more brutal than the first Terminator for violence- is Terminator as a franchise really living up to its name?
You could say this isn’t RoboCop Vs Terminator but it really is… Terminator 6 just got a direct comparison as now entering the ring is a RoboCop movie which is being crafted by the original co-writer and co-producer, while James Cameron is only a creative consultant and Exec producer/writing with like 8 people.
Is it awful that the RoboCop sequel is actually intriguing us more than Terminator right now? Some bloody competition from MGM should surely be a good thing for Terminator; or will too many mistakes be made in the fumble for victory… ?
Do you think the next Terminator movie needs to storm ahead or do they need to pause the project to reevaluate now that this new RoboCop movie has been announced? If MGM do an Ultra Violent RoboCop Sequel to the very first movie and go the whole hog with fully practical effects and throw CG out the window,- if they did it right it could end up being better than the new Terminator (just an opinion).

Note: TheTerminatorFans.com actually started to invest some time a while back into some ideas; ideas we wanted to unleash on the RoboCop community to give hope for the original RoboCop fans (after the horrific reboot) with a small idea for a RoboCop Sequel called RoboCop: Delta City. Here are two (unfinished) concept arts of the original RoboCop AKA Alex Murphy back in action for the Delta city Project we started but abandoned due to Terminator Fan Site loyalties (we still love RoboCop and care about it though).
Can they convince Nancy Allen and Peter Weller to come back in substantial roles and not do a lame half-assed torch pass?
