Mackenzie Davis Sought to Play Female Soldier Assassin in Terminator (2019)

Mackenzie Davis Terminator

Billy Ray (writer) told TheTerminatorFans.com that there would be other strong female characters in the new movie (other than Sarah Connor and Dani Ramos), and now it seems one of them could be played by Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049) as she is in negotiations to join Terminator (2019).

THR Reports:

Mackenzie Davis is in negotiations to join Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the latest Terminator movie.

Tim Miller is directing the reboot, which for the first time since 1991’s Terminator: Judgment Day, has James Cameron involved. Skydance, the company behind 2015’s Terminator Genisys and Annihilation, is producing the new movie.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is understood that Davis will play a soldier-assassin on a mission. It is a human character in a movie that once again sets up the battle between (wo)man and machine.

While Davis has a key role in the movie, she may not be the reboot’s true star. The producers have been undergoing an intense, and so far fruitless search to find a Latina for the story’s main role, according to sources. That is a role that would span all three movies of the intended trilogy. It is unclear how many movies Davis’ deal calls for.

Presumably her character could be a catalyst for the story if she is from the future but let’s get one thing clear; she doesn’t look like a bloody “soldier-assassin”. More model than killer but hey, our excitement level for the new movie is hardly through the roof- it’s difficult to get excited after the last 3 installments. Come on now, how many chances do these people need to get it right?

So far Terminator (2019) could have as many main characters as it has writers and will that be amazingly cool or just a quagmire of a mess?

Regardless, the sixth Terminator movie looks to set to be a feminist tour de force movie but will it be faux feminism or true feminism- with not one woman in the writers room and a man directing the movie it could point to the earlier definition but hey James Cameron is the biggest feminist on the planet (or so it has been said) so it might work out well in the end… it really can’t get worse than Terminator Genisys… can it?!

Variety reports:

According to insiders, Davis would be one of the new faces of rebooted franchise, in the vein of Schwarzenegger’s robotic assassin. Miller and Cameron are still looking for the protagonist who would take over for Hamilton’s character. Sources say Davis has been the studio and Miller’s top choice for a while, but the casting needed sign off from Cameron, who is currently filming the “Avatar” sequels.

From this wording it looks like Dani Ramos is Linda Hamilton’s replacement and Mackenzie Davis is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s replacement in the baton/torch pass for the new trilogy. Mackenzie Davis has been a studio/director favorite to take the role and they have been waiting for James Cameron to sign off on it, which has seemingly passed.

It is likely one possibility that Mackenzie is the Cameron (TSCC) of the reboot/new trilogy and with Josh Friedman writing on the movie it should come as no real surprise if she does turn out to be some form of Terminator/hero character.

Terminator fan kbeastx theorizes that Mackenzie might be playing the character called Grace from the Dani Ramos auditions… if you have any theories leave them in the comments below…
