Last Resort Was Cut Too Soon

Last Resort

Last Resort isn’t one of those shows I normally watch. I usually stick to the sci-fi and fantasy shows since the real world bores me for the most part. Plus I watch, read, and write things to escape my every day life. But this show was recommended to me by a friend. His recommendation and that Robert Patrick is in it (playing the role of Master Chief Joseph Prosser) convinced me to try it on for size.

The T-1000 (played by Patrick in Terminator 2: Judgment Day) remains my favorite of the Terminator models. Hands down. All other Terminators can home now go. And I realized it was long overdue that I checked up on Patrick.

The show is about a submarine’s crew hiding on an island after they refuse to launch a nuke. The show tells of how the government isn’t to be trusted and showed an excellent cast playing their parts. Some sub-plots could’ve done so much better if the show was given a longer run. Most noticeably the final fate of XO Sam Kendal’s wife whose end just felt really rushed.

Patrick plays the opposite of Kendal (played by Scott Speedman). While Kendal is learning where he stands in the series, Patrick knows. He is sure of himself and even though he can be somewhat ruthless at times, the fact is he isn’t wavering. He isn’t questioning every move he makes and with Kendal seeming to constantly question himself; Patrick’s role is a very reassuring part to have on the show.

While the basic premise seems to only be capable of one season, the fact is there was a lot more that could have been explored in this series.

I would recommend checking the series out since it is very good and the show was given enough heads up to tie up the main plots. Oh, and Robert Patrick has aged just fine and I can still see the T-1000 in his face.
