James Cameron Talks Terminator: Dark Fate Sequel Details + Is Dani Ramos The New McGuffin?

Terminator: Dark Fate Mackenzie Davis As Grace

Mackenzie Davis stars in Skydance Productions and Paramount Pictures' "TERMINATOR: DARK FATE."

*This article contains SPOILERS.

On the 28th of October, 20th Century Fox Korea released a live video of Terminator creator, James Cameron, to promote Terminator: Dark Fate.

Jim spoke of the potential for T:DF to have a sequel and said that the door had been left open for such a possibility should / if the new movie proved successful with audiences – though the video may be far more telling than the studios were aiming for, as Jim states that Terminator: Dark Fate might not be the end of Mackenzie Davis’ ‘Grace‘ after all.

James Cameron stated:

“We have a plan for what happens next with Sarah, we have a plan for what happens next with Dani, we have a plan for – how they cross paths with Grace again.”

From this statement it is easy to see that Grace is likely to have a role in Terminator 7 (4?) along with Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) and Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), as they attempt to stop the genesis (pardon the pun) of LEGION – the new substitute SkyNet.

We previously uploaded a video titled ‘Total Film Article READ-THROUGH‘ in which we covered the details of the movie magazine’s Winter Preview.
This featured interviews with the cast and crew of Terminator: Dark Fate – and some of the information appears to reinforce the importance of Davis’ Grace.

The preview stated:

“Putting Hamilton and Davis through a gruelling six-month training regime in the desert to get them ready for the physical demands of the shoot, Miller tasked his two leads with learning how to run, shoot, fight and swim like someone who could realistically take on a terminator.”

The feature clearly describes Mackenzie Davis and Linda Hamilton as Terminator: Dark Fate director, Tim Miller’s “two leads” – not Natalia Reyes, despite the studios attempts to stress the importance of the role of Dani Ramos.

Terminator: Dark Fate very much seems to put most of its stock in Grace, she is the character with the most development and backstory – her sacrifice at the end of the movie is an imitation of Michael Biehn’s Kyle Reese from The Terminator (1984), sacrificing himself to help Sarah Connor survive; which means a great deal to Terminator Fans and is something the people behind T:DF were clearly eager to replicate.

There have been many discussions over the years about whether or not Kyle Reese needed to die – we at TheTerminatorFans.com suggested ourselves that, the delaying of Judgment Day (which was brought about by the destruction of Cyberdyne) could have allowed Kyle Reese to have survived and which would then mean that he could feature in a new Terminator movie – this was met with some positive feedback from the community…

Could this be the same for Mackenzie Davis’ Grace?

Could the destruction of the REV-9 and the survival of Dani Ramos, in turn ensure the survival of Grace – and how important is Grace to the storyline of a potential sequel?

Stephanie Gil as young Grace was an intriguing concept and one we would have liked to see more of in T:DF; the struggle of a child to survive in a post-apocalyptic future could have added depth and humanity to a world suddenly devoid of hope – something the latest instalment briefly skimmed over.

Tim Miller recently referred to Grace as Dani’s “daughter”, when talking of the future war flashbacks, stating:

“and it means nothing to young Grace ’cause she doesn’t know, who the fuck, this woman is – but it means a lot to Dani, you know, because she’s finally meeting, essentially, who becomes her daughter.”

Tim Miller told Collider – Transcribed by TheTerminatorFans.com

Is it possible that Dani Ramos is grooming her adoptive daughter Grace, for leadership of the human resistance and heir to the throne in the war torn future?

Could Grace be the true savior of mankind in the planned Terminator trilogy – which is set to begin with Terminator: Dark Fate?

And, if so… is Dani Ramos simply a McGuffin?
