James Cameron Talks About Retooling Terminator 6

Terminator 6 James Cameron Interview

While James Cameron was promoting Terminator 2 3D, IGN.com asked him about returning to the franchise.

Jim obviously states that not being in control of his own ip was the reason he walked away from Terminator.
It seems that Skydance is allowing him enough control of the next project, and an obvious financial deal that has enticed him back as a producer for Terminator 6. Jim will want to repair some damage done by subsequent Terminator movies (which didn’t involve him) before he gets his share of certain intellectual property rights back in 2019.
Another bad Terminator movie at this stage could render the franchise harder to repair and damage credibility even further,- so Jim is getting a head start… Who can blame him?

The new trilogy is planned to pass the torch to new characters and revive the franchise for a new generation of fans, something we have heard before technically (twice- with Salvation and Genisys), both pre-planned new direction trilogies were later cancelled due to poor reception or legal complications.
