A new edition of the BFI Film Classics: The Terminator book is soon to be republished in May 2021, the book is a study of James Cameron‘s science fiction classic by author Sean French.

To celebrate the book’s upcoming launch, James Cameron spoke to BFI (pre-pandemic) about The Terminator, and the subject of Terminator: Dark Fate arose.

James Cameron stated:

“I recently saw Harry Enfield’s Terminator 3, a cyborg tries to infiltrate Edwardian England. It’s pretty funny. Somebody should do it as a feature. Couldn’t do worse than Dark Fate (2019).”

The BBC‘s Harry Enfield and Chums sketch featuring actor Martin Clunes as The Terminator, was foreshadowing, as the franchise has become a parody in the eyes of many fans. The Terminator 3 sketch was a parody of the third Terminator movie long before Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was ever made.

Now a Terminator anime series in the works with Netflix, could a complete all-out parody movie be the next step, or should we just take James Cameron’s words as simply poking fun at Dark Fate’s lack of box office success?
