J.K. Simmons; Terminator: Genisys is a Love Story

J.K. Simmons Terminator: Genisys

Now, the last time J.K. Simmons discussed Terminator: Genisys it was worrying as he mentioned comedy and actually burst out laughing just thinking about one of the scenes he was involved with. Fans really don’t want comedy in these movies.

J.K. talks some more about the project which ComingSoon.net got the scoop on:

“It’s a gigantic movie and that was such a surprise when they sent that to me and asked me to do it. I thought ‘Well, obviously it’s a gigantic movie and on that level, it’s something most actors would want to be a part of, but is it just going to be the formulaic yadda-yadda-yadda then cut to the stuff blowing up?’ But I found the script to be really much more intelligent and fun and funny and well-rounded and heart-felt. It’s a love story. It’s a really interesting script. They got great actors. I wrapped that in August, so that was another movie that ended up being really satisfying on all levels. I have a much smaller part in that but it was really a fun thing to be a part of.”

So he already has high praise for this project but, there’s that word again; “funny”.

It seems like a safe choice- “the love story”… Sarah and Kyle, Blair and Marcus, John and Kate. Why do we need love stories when fans want a war movie. So we are doing the T1 love story over to get us to gel with the new cast… we didn’t need another love story. It is also a safe choice and something Jim Cameron regurgitates over and over again in different guises (the Romeo and Juliet theme).

The new spin on the series could offer the alternative of not killing off Kyle Reese in the first movie to expand the “love story”. Just a thought.

When asked about filming scenes with Schwarzenegger J.K. Responded:

“Yeah, most of my stuff was with Jai Courtney and Emilia Clarke and Arnold was very involved or rather I was involved in a fair amount of stuff with Arnold. I spent very little time actually with Jason Clarke, but yeah I got to work with all four of the leads of the film and from the table read on, I was just favorably impressed by everybody’s work. Also everybody’s attitude and what they brought to work with them every day and how there was no BS and diva tantrums. It was a good experience overall.”

Well J.K. Simmons is reported to be an alcoholic cop chasing the trio down, will he interrogate them in custody? There was also a theory that Simmons would play Detective Hal Vuckovich (Lance Henriksen in the original movie)  possibly after surviving the 1984 Police Station massacre. From reports it makes sense that J.K. is located in 2018 in this movie but he will also have a younger actor playing himself in 1984.

When asked about the secrecy of the movie J.K. responded with:

“I felt I could give too much away by saying that I get to work with all those actors but people know the characters that they’re playing, so it was a lot of fun and I look forward to sequels to that one.”

When questioned about his possible appearance in the sequels to Genisys:

“No, I didn’t say I look forward to being IN the sequels. Maybe I was just looking forward to WATCHING the sequels.”

THR
also stated a while back regarding J.K. Simmons Genisys role:

“weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades”

Obviously he is being tight lipped about this over-hyped movie. Discussion about the movie has become stale but a Trailer should help the talk to start again but it is going to need to be amazing especially for the amount of time the fans have had to wait. They will expect a real trailer not usually accepted early stage minimalistic teaser trailer. They need to show something to get people interested because right now people are generally not that interested in the new terminator movie. I’m still not happy that they replaced Linda Hamilton. She was the real main character… not Arnold.
