How to Bring Back Robert Patrick in Terminator 5

Some of you may remember that back in 2010 we ran the article ‘How to Bring Back Robert Patrick as The T-1000 in Terminator 5’. Which built upon an idea McG had about bringing Robert Patrick back as a scientist (his original T5 proposal). We explored that concept and combined it with ideas of a digital cameo that would see present day Robert and the 1991 Robert come together on screen for a story arc that could have run through a future war Terminator movie.

Now we are back with one final idea on how they could bring back both Robert Patrick and the T-1000 character it would also add a little ironic twist to the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day and would definitely make you view the T-1000 differently and make your thought processes start to spin.

The idea/pitch:

This is the future war movie you always wanted all loose ends will be tied up. Robert Patrick would play Sgt. Perry; one of John Connor’s most trusted and experienced fighters of the resistance and part of the Tech Com special operations unit. Only the most trusted and dedicated get here and Perry is John Connor’s right hand man and also trained and taught Kyle Reese most of what he knows. Perry has been given the task of watching over Kyle for reasons unknown but his word to Connor is unbreakable.

Tech Com head off to SkyNet to destroy it but only after visiting the Time Displacement Equipment with Kyle Reese and they also need to acquire a certain T-800 by the code name of “Unlce Bob”, reprogram it and send that back in time too.

Connor and Perry split into two groups (the remaining of the elite Tech Com).

John and his group head off to smash the defense grid to allow the rest of the resistance easier access to SkyNet and to acquire a T-800 unit from cold storage for reprogramming to protect John as a young boy.

Perry is trusted to get Kyle,- with his team, slowly but surely to the Time Displacement Equipment as safely as possible.

Everything goes to plan and both teams come back together but as they arrive in the TDE it’s too late the T-800 (The Terminator) is in the middle of going back through time. The blinding electricity and pressure locked door disallow them from entering the chamber, the ground below has opened up, with surges of indescribable energy taking over the room, all they can do is watch in terror. It’s the final realization for the remaining members of Tech Com that everything their messiah had said was in fact true, everything they believed in was not bullshit and the man they stood next to was not crazy but a legend- any doubt was now gone. They were here to destroy the machines once and for all.

A blinding white light takes over, then suddenly it’s over. The pressure locked doors release. The re-programmed T-800 and Kyle Reese are sent back.

Kyle Reese is now getting ready to say goodbye… he says goodbye to his unknown son John Connor. The emotional goodbye and the passing of the photo takes place. As Kyle turns to Perry to hold out his hand a blade is thrown through his chest… Sgt Perry is not Sgt Perry he is the T-1000 and has been since some point after entering SkyNet. Kyle Reese is dead.

John Connor frantically enters new date  co-ordinates in on the control panel, screams at his men to fire upon the T-1000 and orders the reprogrammed T-800 to do the same. The T-1000 kills them one by one; the T-800 is too slow to stop it. The mission is sabotaged and John has no other choice but to start the time-field and go back in time to a point before the T-1000 had sabotaged everything.

Why is Sgt Perry the T-1000 in this scenario?

In the attack on SkyNet Sgt Perry (played by the modern day Robert Patrick) split from his men to secure a safe route through the R and D sector of SkyNet- little did his men know that he had discovered the T-1000 which killed him. The mimetic poly alloy’s encounter with Perry was the first human contact it had achieved. Defaulting in its programming it took the form and likeness of Sgt Perry and the aim was to assassinate the surviving members of Tech Com and John Connor.

– Identity of the deceased set to default.

Why will the T-1000 look like the younger Robert Patrick when sent back in time?

T-1000 can replicate and mimic anything it touches of an equal size. The T-1000 works on principle and perfection and on analyzing its surroundings, utilizing data by physical contact. Sgt. Perry is older, with the scars of battle, on killing other resistance members it starts to analyze DNA structure and performance and starts to understand how age effects human performance, movement and agility. Our theory is that it can start to manually start a process of de-aging itself for optimal performance to an estimated/known point in time that Sgt Perry was in peak physical condition when serving for the United States Army. SkyNet has fancy wi-fi and Terminators can connect to the neural net anytime they wish for information. It looks at detailed government files containing information and images on Sgt Perry. After the identity of Sgt Perry is no longer needed it takes the form of the younger Robert Patrick and steps in the time machine efficient and ready for its most important mission.

Mimetic Poly Alloy strives for perfection and everything it samples can contribute to it’s ability to achieve the optimal performance the Terminator Unit could achieve. After all ‘The T-1000’ was originally a last ditch attempt to eradicate John Connor once and for all (In the story created by the writers of T1 & T2;- Cameron, Wisher and Hurd) at least until SkyNet could initiate a possible back-up of it’s servers at a location unknown to ‘The Resistance’. SkyNet and the TDE (Time Displacement Equipment) could on the surface appear destroyed but with time the machines could rise once again from the ashes (an underground facility perhaps).

It is possible to continue Terminator as a sequel but T3 was a sequel but looking back it did feel like a reboot of sorts especially with the actor changes and total swerve in direction (the wrong direction).

TheTerminatorFans.com don’t want our favorite actors replaced. We want the characters that can be saved to be given a proper place in the franchise. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a crucial figure in the franchise but other characters and actors did achieve greatness also. We think major cast and crew/key players deserve as much place as Arnold Schwarzenegger does in this franchise. The T-1000 to us was a great Terminator Unit and we would love to see liquid metal carnage once more but only if Robert is involved. If he isn’t it will just feel like a cheap gimmick with a chump actor in his place. We are tired of homages… they suck!

Robert Patrick is one of our favorites to return and by making him play another iconic role eg. playing Sgt. Perry this would fit into the Terminator Saga well and also be a pay off to fans of the first movie and it’s sequel.

Robert Patrick has had many military roles in his career and he knows how to do it well.

So how would you like to see Robert Patrick return… As a scientist working on mimetic poly alloy or as the legendary Sgt. Perry and T-1000 in a full on future war installment or new trilogy?
