EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Securing ‘Terminator’ Brand

Terminator

When you’re a Fan of Terminator- it pays to keep your eyes and ears open, so recently we’ve been doing some digging and we came across a website url called TerminatorMovie.com we’ve done all the investigating on it we can. In our previous Exclusives we found the initial url and then looked into who owned that URL, it was revealed that Paramount did. The html based webpage simply shows the official press releases with a Paramount logo at the top of the page by looking at the page title, it said it was official and that Terminator is the reboot title.

Just a couple of days after this discovery we checked the code again and it revealed the page title had changed to ‘The Terminator’. Which had led us to believe that the movie will be called ‘The Terminator (2015)’.

Now with common sense serving our purpose we decided to try typing in www.TheTerminatorMovie.com and this time it doesn’t list Paramount as the owner but this URL redirects back to www.TerminatorMovie.com. It is common for some websites to have multiple urls redirecting back to just one core website, also variations of urls can be used for the various different countries that will have websites for the movies eg. UK, US, Japan, Italy etc.

What interested us about www.TheTerminatorMovie.com is that it is brand protected by a company called MARKMONITOR INC. now their job is obviously to protect the brand by buying urls, possibly creating social network profiles and making sure the general public don’t register similar names which could clash with the studios project. This is also another reason movie studios hold out on releasing names because some people out there just like to buy urls and like to charge extortionate prices to people (including studios) for them to hand over something trending. These people are called domain name resellers and some of them can have rather questionable motives.

Paramount isn’t listed in the details for TheTerminatorMovie.com but the brand protectors at MARKMONITOR INC. are listed on domain information for TerminatorMovie.com

This is obviously a professional arrangement/contract between Paramount and MARKMONITOR INC. in order to secure the branding before official websites and the movie title is released publicly.

Now with all these events taking place in the last several days and the urls themselves; it opens the door or at least narrows it.

In our last story regarding this issue we were pretty much sure The Terminator would be the name of the movie but now we consider it a red-herring as TheTerminatorMovie.com expires around the release of the new Terminator movie but TerminatorMovie.com expires in 2016…

So TERMINATOR could well be the most likely name for this movie.

Terminator: Genesis and The Terminator are possibly red-herrings and the movie was always referred to as Terminator in press releases from day one.

On the latest Batman Vs Superman movie the studios registered multiple domain names for possible tentative titles for the new movie.

If you had to bet money on this where would you stack your CPU chips on the new name? We’d put them on the title TERMINATOR!
