EXCLUSIVE: Michael Biehn Discusses Potential Terminator and Alien Franchise Returns

Michael Biehn Terminator 6 Alien 5

Michael Biehn has been making some new appearances at comic con conventions in Europe and has more appearances planned.  TheTerminatorFans.com correspondent, Jonathan Tam managed to catch Michael at Comic Con Gent in Belgium to bring fresh information about two of Michael Biehn’s most iconic Hollywood characters;- Kyle Reese and Hicks!

In the video below Michael talks about about the future for his Kyle Reese character and possible return to the franchise (should he ever get a call to reprise the role) and discusses the return of ownership of Terminator (going back to series creator James Cameron) and how he thinks a new installment will pan out with Jim’s involvement; which is happening with Terminator 6.

Discussing the complications of a Kyle Reese return to future Terminator movies Michael Biehn stated (in the video above):

Kyle Reese was young when he want back into the past and he died in the past, so unless they are able to generate my images as a young man,- which I am sure they can these days, I don’t anticipate being in any more Terminator Movies but from what I understand the last Terminator Movie did very very poorly at the box office and it’s not very well received but now the movie goes back to Jim Cameron, now Jim Cameron owns the rights to that movie again for the rest of his life, I think, and I think Jim will make another movie, he might not direct it but he will make another movie and I will guarantee you that if James Cameron is involved in making another Terminator movie it’ll be just as good as his first two.

Whilst digital cameos on paper do the trick, visually, our opinion is that they miss the mark and are devoid soul and nothing will ever beat the real actors themselves; regardless of what age they are. It is more than possible to bring Michael Biehn back as an older Kyle Reese and to maintain canon of the first two movies just as it is possible to have Arnold play THE TERMINATOR for a full movie but Terminator 6 on IMDb is currently cited as a “reboot”. Obviously it is up to the movie makers to decide if the real Kyle Reese returns or not.

We have mentioned the idea of including Michael Biehn as a digital cameo (young Kyle Reese) on the site before back in 2011. At this point in time we would rather have the real Michael and his strong acting chops firmly back within the franchise alongside Terminator veterans like Schwarzenegger and Hamilton. We want to see a reduction of CGI within the the Terminator movies and an increase in more practical effects too.

As we know James Cameron only gets his ownership of the franchise back in 2019 but he is producing Terminator 6 with his company Lightstorm Entertainment alongside Skydance Productions and Paramount Pictures to get a head start on reviving the franchise. Paramount Pictures apparently refused involvement with the franchise (according to Schwarzenegger stating that another studio would be willing to participate instead) but they are still listed as being involved with Terminator 6 on IMDb and we are still getting copyright disclaimers regarding Paramount Pictures as being somehow involved with Terminator 2: 3D behind the scenes, although not publicly wanting to be attached at this stage which is probably more a tactical decision perhaps. Also, now Jim is involved (and Lightstorm) after Terminator movie rights owner David Ellison is “bankrolling an exploratory effort” for the new Terminator, Paramount have probably changed their tune and want in on the action and they would be crazy not to.

20th Century Fox have a good relationship with Paramount as far as movie studios go and Skydance has been a big investor/major partner at Paramount in recent years, even expressing interest in buying a major share in the company. This three-way of Lightstorm, Skydance and Paramount and good working relationships and connections has paved the way for a collaboration with James Cameron which of course we highly commend as a very good move in terms of getting this franchise back to a level of success worldwide which has technically not really been since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Some fans have been getting serious Terminator fatigue but hopefully that is all  about to change. Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys all lacked the spectacle, longevity and magic of the first two movies- which were both written and directed and written by James Cameron.

Terminator 6 will be produced by James Cameron, David Ellison and John Landau.

Off Camera Michael Biehn stated about the much wanted Aliens Requel known as Alien 5 (AV) that he had not heard anything more about the project and judging by the announcement by Neill Blomkamp it certainly looks like the project is Terminated, unless 20th Century change their minds as they are now reevaluating the Alien franchise after the mixed reaction/performance of Alien Covenant. Another option would be to allow Ridley Scott to continue on in his vision but also allow Alien 5 to go ahead alongside and perhaps somehow bridge the movies together with some smart plot devices or perhaps to even salvage plot ideas he had for the Covenant sequel and roll it over into Alien 5 retrospectively so Ripley and Hicks could find out about the plot points about Ripley’s parents, the Xenomorph origin and what happen to the technically immortal ‘David’ while retaining some kind of mystery by not showing the full picture; perhaps with modest flashbacks piecing the puzzle together with an Alien Prequel but also a sequel to all the original set of Aliens movies (it can be done). Could Alien 5 be Ridley’s next movie?

No one has contacted Michael Biehn regarding Terminator 6 yet and no, he hasn’t seen T2:3D yet either. Michael also has not watched any Terminator movies beyond the first two installments.
