Captain Marvel’s Talos Inspired by Robert Patrick’s T-1000 Terminator

Captain Marvel's Talos inspired by Robert Patrick's T-1000 Terminator

Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige has already talked about the sources of inspiration for Captain Marvel’s action, story and setting. With Terminator 2: Judgment Day being an inspiration for the 90’s setting of Captain Marvel, and the car chases/action sequences,- even RoboCop has been mentioned as being influential to the character of Captain Marvel’s (Brie Larson) journey of self discovery.

Captain Marvel also has a shape-shifting villain called Talos, and actor Ben Mendelsohn has revealed that Robert Patrick’s performance as The T-1000 was his inspiration for his portrayal of Talos.

“I thought about Robert Patrick quite a bit! That’s just such a great benchmark for the piece. But, the mechanics of what go on between the Terminator stuff and the Skrulls are markedly different. I did dive back to the earliest Skrull appearances. You think about how they started their lives and what their job was in the Marvel world back at that time. It wasn’t yet a Marvel universe, per se. So, I thought about Terminator 2 probably more than other movies…”

Whether or not Talos will reach the spectacularly dizzying shape-shifting heights of The T-1000; remains to be seen but using Robert Patrick to draw from in terms of character depiction is a good place to start from.
