Brad Fiedel to Return for Terminator 6 Motion Picture Score?

Today is Brad Fiedel’s Birthday, so what better time to talk about his possible involvement in Terminator 6!

Brad Fiedel is one of those vital ingredients in the renowned Terminator soup that makes it taste good but let’s face it- the commercialism of the Terminator franchise abandoned his awesome style in favor of an orchestral score, no matter how good those orchestral scores are they never strike the tones and atmosphere Brad Fiedel created in the first two Terminator motion picture scores! The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) reign supreme!

Each Terminator composer did bring unique scores to the table; be it from Marco Beltrami on T3: Rise of the Machines, or Danny Elfman on Terminator Salvation, or even the quite honestly beautiful score by Lorne Balfe on Terminator Genisys (the best thing about the movie) but they just were not Terminator scores to us, at times they would capture the essence but usually down to the percussive clanking of metal and drums recreating core compositions/arrangements created by Fiedel to evoke nostalgia… we were missing the synth god and the true creator of the sound and heartbeat of the machines… Mr. Brad Fiedel!

James Cameron is currently in early stages of Executive producing Terminator 6 with Director Tim Miller. One of the the big things which has prevented Brad Fiedel’s return to the franchise, we would say, is the non-presence of Jim Cameron. Brad Fiedel has been indeed loyal to James Cameron, as have many who have rejected involvement due to the lack of involvement from the original creator of Terminator.

While Brad Fiedel has stated to TheTerminatorFans.com that he would not return to the franchise to compose a full motion picture score, he did say that if Jim Cameron asked him to return he would return to oversee a Terminator motion picture score for him.

Brad Fiedel told TheTerminatorFans.com the following in a past interview:

I have may original projects that I want to create in the coming years so I’m devoting my time to those. If Jim wanted my help I would be happy to be involved in some way to help conceive the musical approach and theme direction for a reboot, but probably not the cue by cue scoring.

Brad Fiedel also recently expressed interest to TheTerminatorFans.com in bringing the first two Terminator movies Motion Picture scores to The Royal Albert Hall with a mixture of a live orchestra and synth after the success of Aliens Live and Titanic Live!

So, now Jim Cameron is involved in Terminator 6, Cameron very well could be asking Brad Fiedel to get involved again and even if only in a music producer/overseeing capacity, he did not give a hard no at cue by cue scoring. Any involvement from Brad Fiedel regardless is a positive.

Happy Birthday Brad!
