"Terminator Salvation" is set in post-apocalyptic 2018, where John Connor (Christian Bale) is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future that Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind."

An outer card sleeve. With exactly the same cover artwork as the box (back & front) but we like the sleeve very much. We think better darker nastier less comic book artwork could have been used but it could be way worse. A DVD box of course, 2 leaflets promoting Salvation stuff including the skull boxset, the quadrilogy and marketing for police Salvation watches, competition and other Blu-Ray releases. Finally your lovely Feature disc with ink printed disc featuring John and marcus with hydrobot mandibles. Remember the standees in the cinema (that's the artwork).

Big 'ole number four eh? Itching with curiosity, we had a tad bit of a look see at the DVD release. Not in stores for a little while yet, we managed to persuade humanity (the big-wigs) to give us that special zing which comes from unwrapping a brand-spanking-new DVD. Add to that the fact it's Terminator Salvation and we're off to the races via Timbuktu's back passage (it's clean, I swear).

So, let's have a re-cap... James Cameron may have considered it,- but did NOT direct it. Nor did he write it, he was thinking more "blue daba de daba da... " Arnold did appear in spirit if not in presence (chins hitting desks), he did get the CGI treatment though. Way-hey!
With this new ensemble cast somewhat delicately taking the reins of our beloved Terminator, there was always going to be arguments about plot, cast, director, CGI, location, scenery and the like (yes, they've all been written down) but with a mostly valiant effort on the part of all involved we decided to give the DVD a chance and take one huge peek.
Big and nicely bold, this single disc edition of the Terminator Salvation DVD comes to you in 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen- Colour saturation is more or less spot on from what we experienced in the cinema, so no letdown there (even down to seeing milk running down the sides of a bottle at some distance, ooh). DVD seems to be a mainstay regardless of any newcomers, and Salvation is a prime example of why.
On DVD you can see the path of gun fire peppers across the screen, does this mean that when we review the Blu-Ray that we can actually see the gunpowder dropping off the bullets?
Dolby 5.1 EX Track- brings a nice surround sound clarity.
The spatial atmospherics are a bit few and far between though, the base notes appear to be constantly shifting from one Terminator movie to the next. Having said that, you're still able to notice the difference in sounds (which always helps).
The soundtrack for the action sequences was pretty swish and clean, as one would expect from a film of the famed franchise, the level of quality there is pretty much perfect. The buzz of the T-600's in awesome when you're in danger of polluting by noise.
The film will literally be throwing your head left and right as gun fire blazes across the screen in a flurry.
Just sit back, pump up the volume and let your eyes enjoy the the T.V screen ( I even had pop-corn and a pepsi, a pox upon theatre charges!).
Subtitles Options: Eng, Eng SDH, Italian, Hindi.
Scene Select: Does what it says on the tin.
Trailers: Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines- they even kept the dead terminator3.com url on the end.
Blu-Ray Promotional.
Angels and Demons.
You can also watch the movie in Italian, and the dubbing is pretty damn professional.
For a movie only release this is pleasing enough. If you loved the movie then you will love the disc, if you had a problem with the movie then those problems will still exist but the parts you did enjoy will be enjoyed due to the quality of the release. You should also be able to get a double disc DVD with all but the Blu-Ray exclusives. So all is not lost as most fans thought it would.
You saw it at the cinema now you can watch it at home in full staggering clarity.
Rating: It is unfair to give this a proper rating in a DVD aspect because it's the movie only. We can say that in our opinion this release is better than T3's feature disc. All we are missing now is a stronger script and Arnold to go head to head against Bale... or help him again.
Eventually at some point we will review the double disc edition and of course the Blu-Ray edition.
