TERMINATOR 5 BID WARS PART 4 (NEW TERMINATOR 5 PREMISE, MEDIA PRESS, JUSTIN LIN CONFIRMED + ORIGINAL CAST):
Reported on 29th April 2011:
On the Justin Lin front nothing is clear! Apparently he is attached to Universal's bid for the saga... but if Universal do not win the auction does that mean Lin is out? Apparently Lin & Schwarzenegger have a premise for a 5th Theatrical Terminator movie. Also we have some newspaper clippings from the first T5 news...
Today was a historical event... the royal wedding of Prince William and the now Princess Kate. Yesterday was the build up with newspapers in England going into lengthy detail but the news of Terminator 5 still made it into a few newspapers... Here are a couple of clippings we managed to get a hold of.

JUSTIN LIN & SCHWARZENEGGER'S NEW PITCH TERMINATOR 2012:
At such an early stage things could change but the new pitch is... :

Terminator 5 now has a working title Terminator 2012, this will most likely not end up being the final name unless the name pitched by Pacificor & Justin Lin has specific meaning in accordance with the storyline of the 5th theatrical production.
At the moment the project is titled Terminator 2012 in which Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation will be totally ignored and instead the old cast will be brought back... Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Schwarzenegger & possibly Edward Furlong.
Again Terminators will be sent back in time to a present day world. The new pitch is simple, a return to present day but this could cause mixed reactions as this movie will ignore parts 3 & 4 (which is welcomed by most fans). This movie aims to be the true T3 reuniting the original cast and bringing Schwarzenegger back.
Justin Lin in a recent interview:
“It’s actually Pacificor that approached me,” explained Lin. “They had an idea…but I guess a lot of studios didn’t go for it or something happened… So then, they came back to me and they said, ‘D’you have an idea?’ and, I said ‘I have THE idea!’”
So finally it is now clear that Pacificor approached Lin directly and that he is not just connected to the Universal pitch as originally suspected.
Apparently Justin Lin's idea impressed Pacificor that much that they totally dropped the idea of making a sequel to Terminator Salvation set in the future war and have instead got him to set the pitch to Schwarzenegger a few weeks back. Apparently Arnold loves Lin's idea too. We have one opinion on this, it'll either work or it'll suck major ass!
Lin also said:
“The Terminator was one of those movies I just kept watching when I was a little kid and this means so much to me.”
Lin on making a terminator movie that isn't just about action:
“Technology has grown so much that there’s a whole idea of gluttony. Sometimes you get carried away because you can have a camera go through the window, but do I need a camera go through the window? Those choices are up to the director,” claimed Lin. “For Terminator, it’s still very early on, but I don’t want to make a movie where it’s not just showing off. I want to support the human elements. If you don’t have humanity, then it just becomes robots.”
So there we have it,- the studio involved will still change the finer details, cast, crew etc but it appears Lin indeed is locked into this down to Pacificor and not universal (as originally thought) but it would make sense that Universal want in on this deal; with their connection to Justin Lin's Fast Five.

This is a really high risk project and not meeting the fans demand (for a true Terminator future war picture in which we see the war ended and the world saved as a close the saga) is diappointing to many. However Pacificor have stated in the past that they plan to make 2 terminator movies to end the saga. So this film if done right could be an intellectual lead into the final chapter.
Latino Review reported about the new pitch Terminator 2012:
FORGET TERMINATOR 3 and SALVATION. They took place on the same timeline, a timeline we never want to visit again (mostly because it was boring, but also due to the rampant disregard for the previous mythology makes stupid, stupid implied subplots)
Really, the question we're now asking is: Are we looking to bring a slightly-plumper Eddie Furlong (who was last seen in The Green Hornet, I believe) back and really commit to forgetting the shitty timeline of 3 and 4 or does someone remember Christian Bale has supposedly signed on to 2 more Terminator flicks?
This also means Sarah Connor did NOT die of cancer.
Also apparently Schwarzenegger had a lot of say so on Terminator 3 and it was his call to do the Elton John glasses scene and the talk to the hand, basically all those scenes we hated Arnold gave a thumbs up to make a mockery of the character that made him who he is today.
OVERALL OPINION:
There we have it... Terminator 5 has begun... Which studio won the auction? Not yet revealed but it seems the wheels are now in motion, we have a director, an original cast and a producer as well as a giant lot of money behind it.
Fans may be outraged by the fact this movie will be set in the present... however maybe they can make the final movie (Terminator 6) set totally in the future and show us some great extended future war scenes in Terminator 5.
Arnold is now in physical preparation for his future roles and he is looking good at this early stage!
