Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines took the character portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new direction. In the previous installments Schwarzenegger first played a T-800 programmed to Terminate John Connor before he was born an in the second movie protecting John Connor as a child. The T-850 in a sense is an over magnified version of the T-800 we saw in Terminator 2 Judgment Day. A classic character was reduced to a bunch of one liners that never really stuck with fans. Comedy was over used and Schwarzenegger did not match his previous performances in the first Terminator movies and like Christian Bale who took a hammering for Terminator Salvation, we know this is down to direction and again,- a poor script.
The T-850 was an upgrade from The T-800 however and it was a welcome upgrade but we never knew the exact reasoning as to why the T-850 was better than a T-800. It also infuriated fans that Schwarzenegger delivered the line "that was a different T-101". Any true fan will know this is a mistake and that Arnold in fact is a CSM-101 (Cyberdyne Systems Model-101). The title of T-101 has become an unwelcome mistake and has even made its way onto more recent Terminator 2 merchandise. Terminator 3 was wanted but not delivered in the way it should have been.
