TERMINATOR PROPS- MAKE-UP APPLIANCES

Reported on 24th July 2010

Sometimes magical things appear on ebay. This was an impressive buy but it now appears to have been purchased solely for redistrabution (at cost obviously)... sound familiar? Especially with where the film rights are at this moment in time. Trapped in legal hell as always! Anyway if you missed it or just want to look again then we have archived it for you on this site...

Nice to see Jeff Dawn at work as always on the final phases of damage on T2: Judgment Day (top left, above) In this image you can see Jeff applying the make-up prosthetics to Schwarzenegger's face.

Battle damage appliances from Terminator 3: ROTM (bottom left & top right) with a cast of Mr Schwarzenegger's head. This obviously being the guide for a left side of the face gradual tear away through the movie. People will have noticed that in Terminator 2 the damage was to the right side of arnold's face with the battle damage appliance from Terminator 2 which had a red LED light to give the illusion of the Terminator's red glowing eye (bottom right image). In the first Terminator movie the half-face tearaway was on the left side just like Terminator 3 all make-up by Jeff Dawn and his team including the talented Steve La Porte.

Again here are two pictures of 2 casts both from Terminator 3 of course. The translucent plastic mask (a time-saving creation crafted by Jeff Dawn) In which marker pen would be the guide for battle damage, making sure the exact point of damage would be in the exact same place on a different day in the make-up chair. This is all in aid of continuity of the Terminator character.

Now whats next? Let's have a look...

So the top left iamge of this collection of 4 is an image of small appliances used in T3 which would be applied to Arnold's face then worked on with a brush to give the illusion of minor damage and scarring but also giving that illusion of the machine underneath. Also by implementing Green Screen Material as part of an appliance ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) could take the footage and give us a digital enhancement to give us a full working endo-skeleton in the final showdown in the movie with the TX at the Crystal Peak Fallout shelter. Obviously this damage wasn't just facial as far as the green screen goes but we're just analysing Arnold's head for now!

The next picture shows the whole lot! Wow any Terminator fan would be proud to own such a collection.

Now, what is with these mouths?! No these arn't the latest sex toy craze lol but infact appliances applied to stunt men in order to make them look even more like Arnold! So at a distance you would think it is really him!

We did an interview with the master of Terminator Make-Up effects Jeff Dawn, if you missed it check it out here!
